Honestly I think Schär Burn are probably our best CBs in my lifetime. Schär because he just is, and Burn purely because for all we had Woodgate, Albert etc, you just cannot deny Burn.

I hope this lands the way I mean it, but that dogged, gutsy performance felt more like one of the extremely rare performances we'd get like that in an Ashley-era match than one under Howe. I didn't see much about us in terms of our football tonight that I've ever seen under Howe, I thought that side of us was poor, but our will and determination couldn't be questioned and dragged us there. If not for a combination of Judas Isakrat, Liverpool's snide transfer activity, an overly emotional Gordon (ironically a scouser) and a ridiculous amount of added time, we get what we deserve. And it took all of that for those butter wouldn't melt hockle rats and their £400m ceiling to win against 10 men. They're really not very good, I've been saying this for a year.

The effort was good to see etc - even if it was purely guts rather than guile - but honestly the only consolation I can feel is that it was so fucking obviously going to happen that I braced for it.
