After something like an outrageous overhead kick "Is it not just luck though?" My lass loves that one, the only goal she's ever given any credit is Messi's against Athletic Bilbao
-
I get similar but with all non-Newcastle matches.
-
Definitely, but then Paqueta too who would be another one who seems to be really versatile.
-
Not totally convinced we need a dedicated DM tbh. I think it's definitely a case of needing Bruno, Joelinton, +1, but both Bruno and Joelinton are quite versatile in the way they play. Bruno can break things up, carry the ball, play key passes, and be a goal threat, as can Joelinton minus the goal threat. Is it not possible that we might look for another player in a similar vain, where we have 3 midfielders who can all do a bit of everything? Similar to Liverpool.
-
"What I just don't get is how they get paid so much money for kicking a ball around." Strange how they never wonder the same thing about people who pretend to be fictional characters in the TV series' they're obsessed with, or literally any other form of entertainment. Totally brainwashed.
-
Paqueta would slot in perfectly on the right side of the midfield 3 in a 433 imo, with Joelinton on the left doing ASM's defensive work. Likewise in the 4231 variant I'd see Joelinton on the left of the 2 covering for ASM. We'll see though I guess.

Judging players solely on the Euros and World Cups, often just within one match, that they dip into every couple of years is a big one as well. Until he really clicked after a couple of games in the Euros last year I had non-football fans telling me that Kane is 'massively overrated'
-
They don't play in the same position. Paqueta's an AM and usually picks up possession more in the centre or on the right.

Bit weird that it was all down that side. -

Yet when we took him off we were much more vulnerable at the back and had no attacking threat. Curious. -
Inspired by the girlfriend thread in Chat, and by recent daft things that I've heard from non-football fans. Two identical conversations I've had in the last two days. "How did Newcastle do?" "Absolutely class, we won again and finished 11th" "Out of how many?" "20, but we were 19th not that long ago and have massively turned things around" "That's not very good is it?" Fucking idiots.

Matt Targett set to miss remainder of season with hamstring injury (Howe)
Kid Icarus replied to SUPERTOON's topic in Football
There's a star maaaaan -
Salah vs Man City for me. Kovacic's is a bit frilly innit.
-
I thought Targett's header off the line was canny like, but fucking hell

Can't remember the last time we were all so unified behind a manager. Probably when SBR first came in. He's absolutely class, I love everything I know about him so far. Not least because he doesn't buy into any notion of the individual or him being a Messiah. It's all about the collective. As a result he doesn't seem to being looked at in that way Keegan was, while still being really well liked and having us all behind him, his team, and the players. That's a much healthier relationship imo and we'll hopefully be all the better for it.

I was with him right up until 'compared to The Beatles'

Player of the Season: Joelinton Most Improved Player of the Season: Joelinton Most Disappointing Player: Chris Wood (but still appreciate what he did do) Signing of the Season: Bruno Guimaraes Goal of the Season (feel free to rank your top 3): 1: Bruno vs Southampton 2: Trippier vs Everton 3: Joelinton vs Brentford (away) Game of the Season: Arsenal (Home) On the pitch Moment of the Season (we all know the takeover was the off-field most important): Cieran Clark getting sent off against Norwich, forcing Howe into converting a widely regarded flop striker into the most dominant box-to-box destroyer in Premier League history Manager rating out of 10: 10 Season off rating out of 10: 10

It wasn't that long ago 4th looked very much within Wolves' capability and we looked hopelessly dead and buried. Fast forward to the end of the season and we're finishing 2 points behind them. Outrageous.
-
Doubt it'll continue into next season anyway tbh, but we're massively asking for trouble and seemingly haven't learned anything if the most popular suggestion is to have more police.

Dubravka - 7.5 Trippier - 7.5 Lascelles - 7.5 Burn - 7 Targett - 8 Longstaff - 7.5 Murphy - 7 Bruno - 7.5 ASM - 7.5 Almiron - 7 Wilson - 7.5 No bad performance out there really, just thought Targett was slightly better than everyone else
-
Oh joy, I was worried for a moment that the team who win the league by default might not win it this season.
-
Very professional performance. Unlucky to Burnley except Ashley Barnes, but they barely put up a fight there like. Had a feeling Leeds would summon the chaos and win.
-
I fucking love Matt Targett man

Burnley vs. Newcastle United: 22/05/22 @ 4pm (No UK TV)
Kid Icarus replied to Decky's topic in Football
I'd never underestimate the levels that teams are capable of when they're fighting for their lives like. I fully expect a professional performance from us, but Burnley aren't that bad at all when they try and play. -
Yeah any match recently and you'd think it would win or be joint 1st considering there's a point in it.
