It's undeniable imo. Watch the 66 and 70 World Cup finals and the time, space and pace is like it's on a planet with thicker air. Even matches from the 90s and early 00s are nothing like what we see now

This is Carragher's for what it's worth. Clemence Alexander-Arnold Hansen Van Dijk Nichol Salah Souness Gerrard Barnes Rush Dalglish

Mount is undeniably bad for England but he's absolutely class for Chelsea. The reverse Harry Maguire if you like.

The £100m/£150m thing seems like a 'hes not for sale' tbh. There's a decent Tifo video on him that came out recently.

I'd argue they're all overrated by people who want to use it as a reason to claim Southgate had little to do with England's recent success, but I agree with your post entirely like.
-
If £100m is the metric we're using then he's obviously massively overrated, as are most players, but he's still a very good player that's worth about £50m with the English player tax included imo. He's been the main driving force that's got West Ham where they are right now and he's got a bit of everything to his game.

Some class posts from our man in Milan.

Had no idea that Malcolm Allen was forced to retire because of an injury. In my daft young mind at the time I had just thought he wasn't as good as Cole, therefore he couldn't get in the team and had thought no more of it. To get 7 goals in 12 is really impressive and an absolute guttner for him that he had to retire at 28, having just got to the top level and started off so well.

Why do people keep putting Paqueta RW? Not being arsey, just don't understand when from what I've seen he doesn't play there.

For me it has to be Peter Beardsley. I loved Micky Quinn and Gavin Peacock but not at the level of Beardsley, who did things that seemed impossible. Ginola took over as my hero more or less from the exact moment I watched him get the ball at Sheff Wed away.
-
Weird because I distinctly remember being told in year 5 reception in the morning that he'd been sold and me and my mate putting all of our energy into not crying.

Pre-red card David Ginola vs Royal Antwerp Rob Lee

Under the Cosh reminds me of being on my lunch break at Northern Rock. Surrounded by lads all trying to out-bloke each other in the room of a company that's clearly in the middle of winding down. Saying that I enjoyed the Bez and Howey episodes. The funny thing about those two though is the more you hear from them, the more their anecdotes change. I must have heard half a dozen different variations on the Tino playing porn on team bus story and each variation of it came from them.

I honestly thought from listening to him that Waugh was Caulkin's early 20s apprentice

The manager who got England to a World Cup semi and Euro final is unqualified at the level he got them to a World Cup semi final and a Euro final at... I think the folk who don't rate him are all emboldening each other to push it further and further and as a result rational thought went out the window a while back tbh. I don't even like how England play, it's just gotten really daft now. I've seen and heard some crazy opinions in my time, but that one about these England players apparently being the best in our lifetimes as a stick to beat Southgate with is going to stick with me for a long time like.
-
And he's right tbh. Wanting a certain line up with 'the best' players is often infantile FIFA thinking that most people grow out of in their 20s.

What they'll probably never be able to appreciate until it happens is that any notion of consistently trying to improve, of the idea of competition itself is gone. In the short-term, fine, but know now that any long-term dreams of any success beyond existing in the Premier League are over, without question. If he gets them to the Premier League I'm sure they'll be delighted, but as soon as they start thinking 'right, now let's push on' the penny will drop not long after. For him it'll be mission accomplished and (if they're lucky) they'll be stuck in a hellish purgatory of doing the absolute bare minimum that he and his media mates will insist is heavenly.
-
They would absolutely be better off letting the club restart like. 14 years in and I would have taken it in a heartbeat even with us as a Premier League club.

Hugo Ekitike (not playing for Liverpool for a while)

It does. He had persistent hamstring pulls until he got his wisdom teeth out -
Not defending Glenndinning because it doesn't apply to him and he's a cunt, but when I've thought about the whole hypocrisy thing, for me it comes down to two different things. whether people are in unavoidable or institutionalised situations (driving cars, using Amazon, eating meat, using technology etc) or 2. active participants who excuse themselves of not making the sacrifices they think others should be making. I've said it before but our society has been created using a system where it's impossible to anyone to not be some form of hypocrite. Pointing out that things can be and should be better isn't wrong in those circumstances.

Think Moyes, Conte, and Frank should be slightly higher and Hassenhutl should be lower, but it's fair enough overall I think.

I see the transfer window is having an impact on people's mental health after... * checks watch * oh, 1 day before the start of the 3 month transfer window.
