  1. No. But if Isak went, and Wissa joined, then possibly of Gallagher and Scalvini/Guehi in this window increases I suspect.
  2. I know both really well. (Twenty years in Gateshead & Jesmond; twenty years in Northenden and Didsbury). Newcastle is much smaller but perfectly formed and has everything you want plus much easier access to the coast. Manchester is bigger, vibrant and has lots of nice surrounding areas and nice suburbs in the South of the city and nearby. Both have lots of nice countryside nearby. As a footballer neither has many places to hide (London on other must be easier to say anonymous for a variety of reasons). So no benefit ‘gold fish bowl’ wise of Manchester. Do prefer Newcastle, think it offers a better overall quality of life and well, I am a proud Geordie, so I would wouldn’t I?
  3. ‘Man Spew’ … “Ooh you’re hard.” Triggered a proper chuckle fit.
  4. Maybe Tripps needs to roll out his “Stand well, stand firm …” Wembley tunnel speech to those upstairs.
  5. Not sure, points required wise, about the last bit. Though I understand it is a bit of a risk to spend big chunks on players who we may get very little back for. Thing is though this is mitigated by likelihood of other purples choosing to jump ship (or being pushed…) if we don’t continue to have successful seasons.
  6. Sustainable success is to a large extent results dependent. It doesn’t preclude the occasional investing for now signing. The occasional investing for now signing, say when you have Champions League and a solid foundation to achieve a third top six finish, is sensible to ensure the right results.
  7. My error, I thought I was responding, admittedly with exasperation, to the idea that it was pointless signing a 29 year old top class striker with a couple of examples which—to anyone who watched them play for us—which prove exactly what the point would be. It’s about building a great team not just about making a profit on every player.
  8. I’d, oddly, actually not that find that as loathsome as Nunez finding his shooting boots against us again.
  9. Signing a current England striker who has scored 44 goals (27, 17) in last two seasons, at the grand old age of 29 (Beardsley was 32 when he joined us for his second spell; Ferdinand was 29). Might as well give-up? really?
  10. Not sensible long term. But he could have a great three years ahead of him and is going to be super motivated in World Cup year. I would be confident, with his playing style in our system, that he would score as many if not more than Isak.
  11. Was there for a night out on Thursday, with a big group in an, shall we say ‘authentic’ bar. Had a great time (kept off football!) as I always have (in nicer establishments in the main).
  12. Well that was illuminating! Got far as arranging a medical with Liverpool. I genuinely thought that it was all speculation at the time.
  13. To be fair, I thought you were talking about one. 😉
  14. Howe evidently rates him; Christ knows we’ve been linked for long enough. Might be he is the best option available to us, if so can only hope it is in second striker role. He’d do a job.
  15. Let’s gazump the feckers.
  16. If so it’s a tricky one for the club to manage. Perhaps they should ask Yasir to enlist some Saudi intervention.
