Tottenham Hotspur 4-1 Newcastle United (10/12/23)

I had similar thoughts. The passing and movement against Man Utd was exceptional. We looked like a pale shadow of ourselves yesterday. -

In case we do ? -
At the end of the season, the Spurs game may prove more critical than whatever happens against Milan, and beyond. ‘Six pointer’ is a trite expression, but they are a main rival for top four (along with Villa). We’re not winning the CL, the odds would also, unfortunately, be massively against us winning the Europa League. If we can stay in touch through December we’ve got a much better chance of retaining a CL qualification place next season (MU are struggling and Brighton won’t last the course). Beginning to think that CL again is the most important objective for our future plans (I’d still rather have a domestic cup win though).

I would kill (…ish) to win that booby prize tournament! -
I think, by and large, this is a balanced and reasonable place. Bar the occasional petty dispute and overly emotional reaction to defeats. But then, I know fuck all about other forums and always think Geordies do it better ?♂️

My main concern is that Bruno is going to pick-up a season-long ban—radge and clearly already brimful of Makemosity. -

I think Maddison was really making a difference for them. Seemed to link everything together. -
Missed a fucking sitter at the end of it though.

What he said.

Everton are playing the same as against Liverpool. We just need to do what we’re doing and wear them down.
-
We had a couple of decent chances, as did they. 63% possession, cried close to turning and I think if we score first they will lose hope.

Nah. We fucking annihilated them and tonight they’ve taken their first points (this season) from one of the top teams (who are, by their standards, faltering). Villa are not the ones the worry about. -

I’ve added Spurs, to the comparison with our Top 4 rivals. Looking at relative difficulty of games to date and where points have come from so far. We have had a harder start than either MU or AV: 8 games against Tier 1&2 sides (6 at home and 2 away) compared to 6 for MU (3H 3A) and 5 for AV (1H 4A). TH have had a more comparable start to us: 7 games against T1&2 sides (4 at home and 3 away). In terms of points accrued we have 15 from T1&T2 (all home). MU have 3pts (H) and AV have 9pts (3H 6A) all from T2 sides. Neither of them have taken any points from T1 sides. TH have taken 9pts from T1&2 (6H, 3A). On form to date, Spurs look like strongest competition for fourth. Though they don’t look the same team without Maddison (no points in Nov, when ‘should’ have accrued 5 or 6) whereas we’ve limped along quite nicely (so far). They also have a killer run end of 4 games in Apr-May: New A, Ars H, MC H, Liv A which might determine their season. Tiers based largely on league position last year (T1=MC, Ars, MU, NU, Liv; T2=Bri, AV, TH, Bre, Che etc.). -

Are you psychic? Almost spot on, except it’s a garret with a single cracked single glazing pane (looks bright out…) and overflowing B&H blue. -

Thought I would look at a couple of our Top 4 rivals, in terms of the relative difficulty of their games to date (haven’t checked Spurs yet) and where the points, to date, have come from. We have had a harder start than either: 8 games against Tier 1&2 sides (6 at home and 2 away) compared to 6 for MU (3H 3A) and 5 for AV (1H 4A). In terms of points accrued we have 15 from T1&T2 (all home). MU have 3pts (H) and AV have 9pts (3H 6A all T2). So neither of the other two have taken any points from T1 sides (based on league position last year (T1= Ars, MC, MU, NU, Liv). -
Player of the year in Italy (Players player?) and looks like one of the few individuals who would immediately push us up a level.

Nice! You’re no doubt nailed on for a ticket. I wonder if there are any ‘options’ for us lesser mortals. I’ve seen three games there (well, two were at RP), in the wrong end, and one in our end. Would walk there to be in the ground. -

Good point re atmosphere. As much as we/everyone likes to talk-up the passion of this game, not sure if noise levels are going to be any more intimidating than Paris, Dortmund and Milan. Not to mention some of the noisier Premier League grounds the whole squad are used to.
