🚨 Bedwetting rambling alert 🚨
This is going to make no sense. This is just me getting words out and probably going to regret it later.
Hearing some reporter on SSN waxing lyrical about how Liverpool are able to spend £400m this window and still be PSR compliant because they’re such a well run club… makes me wonder whether we should use this Isak situation as a reset for the club.
I think the chances of us ever challenging for the title and being number one as YAR put it are, sadly, remote, and becoming more and more remote as each season passes. The cartel clubs have it all wrapped up. But what if we changed focus, changed the aim. Okay, maybe we never win the league, but we’ve proven that we can win a cup. We’ve proven that we can challenge for European places. Why couldn’t that be our priority moving forward. We’ve shown that you don’t need worldies to do that. Hell, a lot of our squad is over 30. There are players out there in the £30m-£50m range that would surely improve our squad, giving us depth and choices without sacrificing quality, and more importantly, not going to fuck us over in terms of PSR. We should only sell players because we want to, not because we need to in a drastic and frantic weekend before being hit with a fine or points deduction.
But we also need changes off the pitch too. It starts at the top. We need people in place who know what the fuck they’re doing. Hopefully the new CEO and sporting director are a hell of a lot better than what we’ve had previously. And we need urgency going forward. We can’t go on with the slow and asleep at the wheel running of the club. Eales should have been replaced well before now. The man has blood cancer. His number one priority should have been his health. His employer should have taken the decision out of his hands. 10 months and counting and still no replacement for him.
New stadium. Imminent. New training ground. Who knows. They could have announced that on day one. At least it would have shown some planning. We need to start ramping up the commercial deals. We need the money.
It’s coming up to four years now since the takeover. We’ve had CL football twice now. Won our first trophy since the Stone Age. Yes, these are achievements, but they are achievements on the pitch. Yes, as fans (well, most of us), we are grateful for these owners rescuing us from the nightmare that was Mike Ashley. But we’re at the point now, four years later, where being grateful and thankful need to be put to one side and question what the future holds. Are we a still a priority for you? Were we ever? Have the rules and restrictions turned you off? Are you expecting Eddie to continue to perform miracles?
We just want clarity. You came in with all these big aspirations. To be number one. As fans, what a lot of us wanted, especially post-Ashley, was to just be competently ran. To be in with a chance. We don’t demand a team that wins, we demand a club that tries. And we did that in the beginning. We recruited well. So fucking well. Everybody outside the club thought we were going to sign the likes of Mbappe and spunk a billion on transfers. We didn’t want that. You had it so right. Convinced great players, not yet worldies, to join our club. I’ll be perfectly honest, I had no fucking clue who Bruno was before he came here. But he clearly had talent, enough to make you take notice, and he didn’t cost the earth. To me, THAT it is kind of player you should be looking to sign. Somebody I’ve never heard of but who wants to come here and get sucked into the legend that is Newcastle United and basically get infected by our love and adoration. Right now, it all feels a little bit like we’re just going through the motions.
I can’t even remember what my original point was now. Oh aye, reset and refocus our aims.
And finally…
Are you still interested in us, and are you still wanting to be on this ride with us? If not, then maybe it’s time to say thanks for the memories and move on.
