Great post. I simply can't fathom why he's treating us this way. This isn't the barren husk of a club managed by Bruce and owned by Mike Ashley anymore, this is an amazing place to play football. You'll be coached by one of the most dedicated and talented managers of his generation, play alongside great players who will die for you out on the pitch and have great camaraderie with each other off the pitch and you'll be adored by the fans who would give anything to be in your position. I have absolutely no problem with Isak wanting more money, frankly, he deserved based on how crucial he was to the team but why the hell is he treating us like we're some basket case mid table plodders in a backwater league somewhere and not a Champions League team on the rise, playing in the most prestigious domestic league in the world. His options this summer were: A: Sign a new deal bumping your wage to around 200k pw, further solidify your status as one of the world's best strikers by having a good PL & CL campaign with teammates you're already familiar with. Leave in the summer to one of the European giants who will likely pay you around 500k pw, Newcastle receive a revolutionary transfer fee and you leave with the blessing of the fans who adored you and will look back fondly on you, remembering you as a legend. A long standing pet peeve of mine has been added time. It feels extra pertinent tonight as well! How is it that we live in a day and age where goals can be ruled out because the shavings of the attackers pinky fingernail are offside or players can be sent off after the ref watches 40 replays of an incident from 17 different angles at 19 different speeds but when it comes to how long to actually play the fucking game, it's so arbitrary. There could be 9 mins and 46 secs worth of stoppages but the ref who has 1000 other things to think about will declare "ehhhm, 8 minutes extra time sounds about right". If there's 8 mins 30 seconds worth of stoppages, does the ref round up or down or does he even count it that precisely? I know that I'm advocating for even more micro managing of the game but I think of all the elements of a football match, the time in play should probably be considered most important.
