It would, but only on the provision they give him time. This is always their issue. They get a new man in, he's the savior, he might start well, suffer a dip then it's time to chop and change. As I said at the time - start him and there's every chance he has an adrenaline dump and is done by 65 minutes when the game could still be tight. For sure, it was a risk, but giving him that 5 minutes allowed him a chance to have fun, be himself, and get a vibe for what it's like.

I felt like I saw the perfect microcosm for his career here last night. He had some nice passes into space that switched the point of attack quickly, but he also had a clear rush of blood with the tackle on Gordon. The problem with him is that you could see that tackle coming a mile off. When the crowd gets up like that he's always the top candidate to cross the line. I guess in an odd way I have to give him some credit for not getting a second yellow, but still. I don't see a way in which he drops out of the XI this season when he's fit and available, and I'm kind of ok with that if the plan is for him to bunker in deep and try to dictate.

He and Wood are similar types of players, so the transition for Weghorst to Burnley is significantly easier than Wood to us. I'm not sure if anyone else saw this but I thought he looked a bit leaner and more mobile last night. When I saw him at Christmas he looked a bit heavier and like he didn't quite have that burst.

The duality of his drive and technique in midfield and awful attempts in the penalty area are amusing. That said. He continues to be a major asset to this team and I can't wait to see him and Bruno together.
