I’m on the verge now - I come on here for the crack and to talk about it but I find it predictable and boring how they’ve changed it to what it is. Thing is I don’t think it’s sustainable long term as outside the north east less and less are supporting their local teams and most kids these days watch the highlights after the game on their phones. Funny thing is I read an Article a while ago with Amanda Staveley where she said this is where it will go and clubs could do worse to try and tap into that market somehow.

Sunderland are playing £30m for nobody’s with prem experience and sold Bellingham for 30 odd mil , again no prem experience . You don’t get these stats for £30m. End of the day he’s 4 years younger than Callum Wilson so what was he like 4 years ago? That’s what I expect we’ll be getting, he’ll give us around 4 years to get our shit in order and get better up front options. He hits the ground up and running and in terms of scoring and sharing the burden - minimal risk.

Think some of the comments are really harsh - 20 goals last season, ending the season with 8 in 13 appearances. He’s averaged 1 in 3 throughout 139 games for Brentford and is their top premier league scorer. All our other choices have turned us down and we’re in a market where Chelsea want 100 mil for Jackson, it is what it is and we need another striker ASAP.

People with a point to prove will leave off the “does he improve the squad” narrative.

No it’s just he’s now grown to a stage he can expect trophies every season and a. decent chance of winning the CL, he’s outgrown us and time to try our best to keep him and if it doesn’t work we move on. As a club we need to get better at handling change and moving on.

We’ve not given him any support in terms of other strikers, in fact done nothing for last few years, ran him into the ground every game and he can go to a team giving him CL every single year and going further in the tournament for bigger wages.

Let’s be honest though - unless we’re gonna play 4 keepers across the back we can swap some around, Targett won’t be missed either if we went on a buying splurge and couldn’t sell.

Plus no doubt a £20m sell on clause and a first chance buy back as well.

I reckon I’d start with the person in charge of interviewing and recruiting back room staff - guess that’s HR.

What I mean is we bidded less than the team wanted and they were both transparent about that price, I worded it badly.

Problem is now inflated prices as teams know we’re more desperate. Hope you’re right though and we do sign more.

Were certainly not squandering our resources but the way we’re approaching it there’s a very good chance we’re squandering our opportunities instead, getting there is only half the battle and a plan of “buy the best but spend next to nothing” is not the best approach.

Don’t care whose fault it is -plenty of time left but if the window closes and we have nobody else in so we’re essentially weaker up front and in mid then we deserve whatever we get next year. Last few windows I’ve been patient stating FFP but always thinking this summer is the year funds get freed on top of that finally winning a trophy and getting CL so our reputation was good when the season ended. Now feels like we’ve missed that opportunity.
