I’m convinced brightons success (and Brentford to an extent) has to do with owners who are very well versed in sports data/analytics. I work in a similar industry. These people can be meticulous. Pretty sure the Brighton owner runs a “sports investing firm”. We watch the matches as regular supporters, they just look at the numbers. Crosses, dribbles completed, aerial duels won, tackles won etc etc. it’s applying gambling theory to sports. Which is brilliant. Their owner is an expert gambler. Reminds me of Billy Walters. I doubt anyone would allow billy to buy a sports franchise. This is all about Bloom, these players and managers and scouts from Brighton are literally just all cogs in his genius system That’s how you find gems like Adingra or Maitoma playing for a random Belgian team but putting up impressive stats. the Brighton staff are all frauds. They worked well in that system. They deserve no credit for the system put in place by the ownership

Why would it be an I told you so moment? I have no clue how good or bad this player is. I’ve seen him play just as much as anyone else. I wouldn’t even want that to happen.. it’s an IF we are stunting his development and freezing out a young lad signing for his boyhood club purely for financial reasons, I hope he makes us regret it. Purely based on poetic justice I thought that was pretty clear in the original post?
-
but isn’t the money paid over the course of the contract? So if we sign him to a 5 year deal it’s 6m off our FFP for each of the next 5 seasons.
-
lets say hypothetically that it is him not being good enough or Howe not fancying him.. what does that say about the millions spent on scouting? It’s not like he’s some obscure player we’ve signed from the 4th division of Burkina Faso. Our scouts and Eddie must have been very familiar with him? Surely? Buyers remorse? We just test-drive him and went meh ?? hard for me to even wrap my head around this situation.
-
Could it be fitness? I know Eddie loves his players super fit. Gordon could barely get on last season. Even then it doesn’t explain the lack of cameo appearances for 5-10 mins at the end of a match considering our injury crisis. We’ve had matches with 4 goalkeepers in the squad ffs
-
Imagine IF that’s the case and he’s signed off on it just to help the club out. Maybe Howe has promised him a bigger role next season and he’s smashing it in training and just taking it on the chin to help out his beloved NUFC, no matter how it impacts his development this season. Wouldn’t that be some beginning to the lore of a future club hero? Can someone (who is more familiar with FFP) find out if there are any benefits for us in delaying the move? Like it becoming automatically permanent now due to appearances versus it being signed off on in June.
-
I agree. That’s why I started with if. But I will say that if we have scouted and brought in a fullback/cm who was academy player of the year at one of the best youth academies in the world…and is capped at youth levels, a player Chelsea fans cried about when he left them…a player who featured for Chelsea at this very level just last season and looked quite good in limited showings… i highly doubt its a skill issue. He looked fine and even scored against united. A tactical issue is more likely if anything but even then, he’s been around training all season. He isn’t learning a new sport. as for the potential of it being attitude based, I doubt he would still be around the team if his attitude is so stinking bad that we refuse to play him and he’s only here on loan Maybe we are pinching money off FFP by waiting until the end of the season before making the deal permanent manually (as opposed to automatically based on appearances etc) and that may impact the books. Not sure when the FFP year starts or ends but it’s a possibility idk. This is all speculation but something smells a bit funky here.

meh, we can hope lascelles comes in and also gets hurt. Then we can shift burn to CB and maybe..just maybe Howe will finally start fucking playing Tino!
-
If we have brought this talented kid in and are simply not playing him because he’s a casualty of our tight FFP restrictions going forward…I genuinely hope he goes on to be world class and we regret it for the next decade. none of this makes any sense.. he can’t get on. TONS of Injuries, very fatigued players, even a 5 minute cameo? Ritchie is coming on. Academy players are being handed their first appearances ahead of him getting any time. the more this goes on the more I think we are avoiding some kind of clause that makes this deal permanent, which is really harsh and borderline shameful to do to a young lad who was over the moon to sign with his boyhood club and hasn’t looked awful when he has gotten on the pitch.
-
thats true but.. just purely based on his lack of pace, lack of agility, overlapping runs every 10 minutes, offering fuck all going forward, forcing the winger ahead of him to babysit him, etc etc he could have an 8/10 match and still be a 1 on 1 sprint away from losing it for us at any given moment. if every manager we come up against is instructing his team to attack Dan burn…and having success…we probably should think about using him purely as CB depth. I’ve literally never in my entire 30 years on this planet heard of a 6’7 playing left back in the most competitive football league in the world where every week you come up against elite to world class RWs with pace. It’s not fucking rocket science here. Sure he has had some decent performances, nobody is denying that. He’s holding this team back massively tho

Eddie Howe: watched the Man Utd game in hospital (Tindall)

I think it’s fair to question some of his decisions. Would be harsh for him to be sacked before everyone is healthy next season, but even then he will probably roll out Burn Longstaff and Almiron. Only real gripe I have is playing Burn over Tino week in and week out when. I can only imagine opposing managers team talks when they see big 33 on the team sheet out there at LB. Not just out there but overlapping and thinking he’s Roberto Carlos. Fuck sake he can’t even win a header. We’ve had issues with almost every single RW we have faced all season. I’d be fine with it if Tino hadn’t been one of our best performers in nearly every one of his appearances. -
I know our performance has been alright and he’s had an okay match thus far but I’m starting to really get annoyed at us sticking with Burn at LB. It’s been half of their game plan to isolate him. Also what the fuck is he doing overlapping Barnes and Gordon every chance he gets? Took a chance off Bruno’s toes as well, then gets beat coming back. There’s no way on earth we should be playing a 6’8 left back who isn’t particularly even good in the air. Also Longstaff again gets into prime positions and can’t do anything. Almiron does the same and needs to check back on his left foot to even be capable of a short pass. I love all 3 of these players but they are so fucking mediocre it hurts
-
Looks great today. Wish we’d show short for him rather than everyone going in behind and limiting his passing options this leads to some turnovers by him
-
Francis should be off. Few others should be booked. Unbelievable that VAR didn’t look at the one on Bruno. The last one on Miggy was a yellow too. Officials should have to sit down after the match and watch replays on a huge screen and comment on their performance and what they were thinking.

I used to play ice hockey a bit when I was younger and this reminds me of a few things I saw our physio would do. A walking boot/crutches doesn’t always reflect on severity of an injury. Some of these boots are for compression and they are pumped up to prevent blood settling into the ankle/swelling immediately after. Rest Ice Compress Elevate the crutches and the boot will accomplish rest and compression. I’m sure they will have him prop his foot up with a few pillows tonight so it’s over his heart and also apply ice and heat on and off. We only did this in tournaments were we had to play again very soon. It’s for the quickest recovery possible. Just wanted to share to calm down the doomers. Doesn’t have to mean he’s seriously injured (if that’s even him in the pic lol)
-
I think we are looking too deep into this. It’s just Howe being stubborn and not trusting certain players. We had 3 GKs on the bench at one point. Fatigued fullbacks and a bench full of fullbacks. I love Eddie but we have to take the good with the bad.
-
Somewhat disappointed to see Livramento left out. Anyway let’s fucking go lads.
-
I think Almiron being incredibly one footed and predictable is really holding us back. He has 2 moves. Play a 1-2 with tripier and go behind for a through ball. OR Cut left and try to get a shot away at the far post. He's a very poor mans Arjen Robben. I want a right footed RW who can put balls into the box for Isak and take on his man down the line. Teams can actually play narrow at the back because they know almiron isnt taking them down the line on his right foot. I love him to bits and appreciate his energy, but hes a very limited RW. Asides from that one month where he was the best player in the prem he didnt contribute much (other than pressing).
-
We all like Longstaff but we've got to be honest.. Hes very mediocre. Gets in tons of great positions and has low technical ability. I appreciate his running though. We cant get to the next level with such a limited CM. I'm fine with him being an emergency backup at the end of the bench. Same goes for Dan Burn. I'd like him as a depth CB and nowhere near LB.

? My name is Tandro Sonali. No relation

Also that list of transfer values for our players is so stupid

I watch a bit of the championship when I’m bored and have nothing else to gamble on. Seen some decent young players so far this season who wouldn’t surprise me if they went on to be top level players in the next few seasons. One that comes to mind is Philogene. No clue what Villa were thinking selling him for 5m. Dewsbury hall is good. Hackney. Archie Gray. Walker peters. Many others come to mind. Lots of them would be tough to pry away from their clubs for cheap (because they aren’t stupid and know they have a player with load of potential on their hands + English tax) but I think it’s a market we would be smart to at least have a look at.

I agree. However signing players from other leagues usually means a waiting period where they have to settle in and adjust to the PL. We arent in a position to wait or be patient imo. We need players who can perform right away. Im not against signing players from other leagues, i think that is a good strategy. Just pointing out the above.
