Was White even offside there? They are supposed to wait incase there's a goal for VAR to check unless they are miles offside.
-
Some refs would've sent him off right before half time at 2-0 vs PSG. The ref didn't give it. I was saying in the match thread that these things can throw the game away, but got a lot of stick just because he had played well and people said it wasn't even a yellow. Now the same thing happens again, lucky not to be sent off. Bit too emotional sometimes.

Dummet has also played at left back quite a few games I think. Only Wilson and Dubravka has never played as a fullback.
-
This will probably be a tougher game than what the PSG game was at SJP. Crazy.
-
Serhou Guirassy with another hat trick. 13 goals in 7 games. Last 2 seasons he scored just 9 and 10 goals for Rennes.. He's 27. Crazy
-
He also got a new contract at around £350.000 per week..
-
People were saying in the match thread that anyone who thinks it was even a yellow are stupid.

Brighton hasn't lost twice in a row in the league since october 2022..

The only reason I checked his pass percentage was because I felt that he kept giving away the ball cheaply, and the stats were saying exactly what I thought that they would say. He had the lowest % out of all midfielders and strikes on the pitch. That's why I mentioned the stat. But I seriously think that pass percentage gives me more reliable information than xG or xA. It's much harder to define expected goals, while a pass to the opponent is allways a misplaced pass.
-
I think that xG and xA is not the same as passing accuracy. Something similar would be "expected passing accuracy". Both Tonalis passing and the comment about xG and xA was based on what I saw in the game with my eyes. I would make a compilation on some of his involvements for you if I can figure out a way to download the game, because you seem to have missed it.

Newcastle xG 1.05 PSG xG 0.96 This tells me that we should not allways take xG and xA so seriously.. This suggests that we scored 4 wondergoals from nowhere, when in reality only the last one was a screamer.. How did PSG almost match our xG? Even their manager admitted that they didn't really scare us for the most part. If we scored just 1 goal this game from those chances that we had, we would be kicking ourselves, while PSG scoring just 1 was pretty fair.

He has trained his left foot to also be able to function as a right foot when required.
-
The classic "it's just a group match".. Imagine if Liverpool or Man Utd beat PSG 4-1 in the group, we wouldn't hear the end of it.
-
I often wonder why Murphy is a right footed right wing.. It's not like he can cross it like Trippier. Very few teams play with right footed right wingers these days (I believe). I guess that's just the side that he has been used to playing?

I mean.. The reason we win by several goals has nothing to do with beating a low block, but quite the opposite really. When we take the lead, opponents has to start taking more chances, and they open up a little. We are ruthless against teams who are trying to get back into the game, because we get more space, and our team thrives in those situations. The struggle to beat low blocks from last season was mostly down to not taking our chances in certain games though.

He did get subbed, but most of the stats for each player must have happened before he got subbed anyways considering that we were so deep after, and barely got the ball. I think he made the highest amount of fouls aswell, I remember them as obvious fouls in situation where it wasn't all that necessary. Just seemed a bit too aggressive in some moment on and off the ball, aggressiveness is usually good but there can be too much sometimes.

Absolutely, I have a lot of faith in Tonali. Just mentioning an area that I feel like he can improve. But I also know that Howe knows better than me, so if he sees it as a problem it will get worked on.
-
First of all, before anyone has a go at me, I also think there was improvement yesterday, and I'm confident he will keep improving. He did work really hard, especially defensively, which was nice to see. But I totally agree with you. I pointed it out in the match thread about the passes. Got some stick for it, and literally 20 seconds later he yeeted it into nomansland again for no reason. Already in the first half some of his killer pass attempts were annoying me a bit, and it got worse in the second half. He has tried quite a few killer passes this season, has it worked out even once? Has any of his killer pass attempts even been close to creating a goal? Sure, you wont win the lottery if you don't buy the ticket, but I feel like he needs to be a bit better at picking out the right moments for it. Or maybe he just needs time with his new team mates to be able to read their movements better. If Bruno played the exact same game as Tonali yesterday, people would not be as impressed. Tonali made 4 fouls, some of them unnecessary in my eyes, but that was because he was aggressive. Which was probably a good thing. But nearly half of his passes went to the opponent. I hope anyone who rewatches the match will pay attention to this, because I feel like it went over some peoples heads for some reason.

For anyone who doesn't know, head-to-head results counts before the overall goal differece. Atleast it means that we will probably beat PSG if we end up tied in points, unless they batter us at home.

Reading through the thread, interesting to see so many taking the opportunity to express their hate towards VAR after they gave us back the Burn goal which was wrongfully disallowed by the refs for offside. And some complaints about them taking too long, all I can say is that one of the main critiques from the Liverpool incident was that they rushed it too much. They were probably spending time looking at the possible handball, not the offside. Who knows what would've happened this game if VAR didn't give us back the goal that we earned, but almost lost to the refs. Without VAR this game we could've ended up being annoyed for ages about a huge win being taken away from us by the refs, but instead we are here celebrating a massive win. Not saying we wouldn't have won if the goal wasn't allowed, but you never know.

3 of our goalscorers today were here pre takeover, and the last one was a local lad signed in the first window for £13m..

"Those fools from Milan with Newcastle left me sick. I don't understand Newcastle, they are fourth in the league (last season), but they don't do anything, disgusting. They are lucky because they only know how to run, otherwise they wouldn’t be there." Vidal

I said it after our losing streak, we had the same discussions around february, that he was found out and couldn't change things up. Then we went on an amazing run after that. He has once again proven that him (and the team) can bounce back in style.

This and the City game. Wow. So happy for him.
