I recall seeing many of those subtle kicks get given a yellow. Not a second yellow, because players don't kick the ball away on a yellow at all. Apart from Rice that is.

No, he still gets a yellow. Unless the ref is a coward and therefore doesn't want to give a red. I can't remember the last time I saw someone kicking the ball away without getting a yellow? The only reason would be for the ref to not have seen it.

He kicked it away on purpose. How far he kicked it doesn't matter.

And it often gets given a yellow for. Players often do it when they are not on a yellow.

That's what I thought aswell, even back then. Ofcourse we will try. But the narrative was that going out of ECL was a good thing, because now we will get top 4. Tried to say that it doesn't mean top 4 at all, most likely not, but that apparently an unpopular opinion.
