Sad to say but yet again you can’t actually sack Southgate after this. It’s too idealistic to sack him based on performances when the results show we lost one game (the final) and even that was in the last minute. He’ll get the World Cup if he wants it.

He was a good finisher under Ancelotti, a manager who knew how to use him. Cannot stress enough how much a manager matters to a player. We’ve seen it here with Howe digging at least half the squad out of the grave that Bruce put them in. I also dread to think how Isak would get on in that Everton team. Any half decent attacking player should steer well clear of them.

Carlo Ancelotti absolutely loves DCL which is enough for me. He called him a “complete striker” and said he was better than Inzaghi in many ways. It’s worth reading some of his quotes. It’s hard to really judge him on last season because Everton scored the second least amount of goals in the league almost by design. We scored over twice as many so you’d expect a higher output from him automatically.

Almost all of the tricky games until January are at home so we’ve got a real chance to be in an excellent position at Christmas. That also means we’ve got plenty of winnable home games in the second half to keep the momentum up.
