West Ham haven't been bigger than Chelsea since the 70s, and even then it was debatable. I know we like to hate on Chelsea, and rightly so, for all the detestable things they represent about modern football, but most people like to ignore the fact they were regularly winning trophies even before Abramovic rocked up. They were also qualifying for the Champions League, whereas West Ham spent the entirety of the 80s and 90s as a yoyo club. West Ham have been relegation fodder for most of their existence. Never won a single league championship in their entire history.
