Top 6 is looking beyond us now. I think 7th is the best we can hope for. In what scenario does 7th spot get Europa League? I'd personally love a Europa League campaign. You'd still get some glamour clubs and ties in it. And it is a competition that we would have genuine shot at winning. We kind of missed out on it since the takeover. Normally, a club has a steady rise through the competitions, Conference to Europa and then Europa to the CL. But we just sort of bypassed it all and jumped straight into the CL. And whilst that has been great, we also missed out on good opportunities to put some trophies in the cabinet.

The club probably feel even with a couple of signings, we'll struggle to make the CL anyway. Might as well save the money for a refresh in the summer.

We should have swallowed our pride and tried to do deal as early as possible instead of waiting til the last day of the window. He was going to go either way. At first, I thought it was in eastern Europe, down Romania and Bulgaria way. But no, it's on the other side of Turkey, bordering Iran, which is in the heartland of Asia. We should have enough about us to get 7th, considering the teams we are competing with for that position. We would need to beat out the likes of Everton, Brighton, Fulham, Brentford and maybe Tottenham if they can get their shit together. That should be doable for us. Is there any way 7th gets us Europa League? Otherwise we need to be aiming for 6th which will be much tougher to get because we will have to overhaul at least one of Liverpool, Chelsea and Man Utd. The top 3 looks set in stone now. Conference League is a complete waste of time and energy. The Europa at least offers a route back into the CL, and is still a prestigious enough competition for us to go all out to try and win.

The Wissa, Ramsey and Elanga are especially egregious. Absolute overpayments for decent Premier League standard players. At least Woltemade is an asset. Even if it doesn't work out for him here, there will be takers for him elsewhere, so we should get a decent amount of our money back. The other 3 are a complete write-off if they don't start performing.

Our home form really is overrated, it has to be said. Yes, it's better than our away form, but that's not a high bar, is it? We've failed to beat anyone decent we have faced. Lost most of them, in fact. Only ones we won were against relegation and mid-table fodder, and even a lot of those were laboured, chaotic wins. Also put away weaker foreign sides in the Champions League, which is fair enough.

Looks like we will need another rebuild this summer. I wonder if we still have any of the Isak money left, or did we spunk it all on deadwood like Wissa, Ramsey and Elanga?
