Tooj
Has the England national team ever seen a better striker than a 23-26 year old Alan Shearer?
Guest Wally_McFool
Jimmy Greaves maybe!
Robster
Maybe not. Some of the goals he scored for Blackburn when they won the league were just awesome. Never seen the ball struck so hard from outside the box

Guest trotter58
The 'Lion Of Vienna', Nat Lofthouse. The Alan Shearer of his day (so i'm told!)
Martin Lol
Jimmy Greaves maybe! No question about it. Bettered only by Pele and perhaps John Charles (of the players I saw live) though Charles was in the Geoff Hurst mould. Greaves was a better finisher than Eusebio imho. S.S.R.
keegan Shearer would have put that free header away against Spain.
Spider Jerusalem
As longs as I have watched football it has to be Gary Lineker. Top class goal poacher. If the ball was whipped across the face of the goal then you could almost guarantee the lad with the big nose and pudding basin haircut was going to be sliding in on the near post. Shearer had a patch of about two years where he didn't score for Enlgand prior to Euro 96 and Venables was under tremendous pressure from the media to drop him. Then he picked up the golden boot for the tournament. Funny how the press are still full of shit even after all these years.
Thespence
Linker was awesome. Him Al would of been unstoppable together.

Cronky
I go back to 1966, and yes, I'd say Shearer was the best. No-one else has had his all-round qualities.
Guest walkerboy
Linker was very good but the person who really made him in the england team was one of the best players we had-peter beardsley.

James
A footballer's lifestyle was different before Shearer, so I thinkit is unfair to try to make a comparison.

macca888
Some strikers on a par with Shearer and not necessarily English during my time would be: Jimmy Greaves Denis Law Allan Clarke Martin Chivers Ian Wright Gary Lineker Mark Hughes Francis Lee Bobby Charlton Kenny Dalglish Kevin Keegan Trevor Francis Peter Osgood Pop Robson Malcolm MacDonald Brian Clough Geoff Hurst Some great goalscorers, not necessarily all in the Shearer mould
