Disco
http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/topstor...9520-20281696/ Troubled football idol Paul Merson has been made homeless after gambling away the roof over his head. The former millionaire, who once earned £20,000 a week, has been forced to quit his plush £300,000 flat and move back into his parents' ex-council house after failing to pay his mortgage. Friends say the addict is a mess and has squandered his wealth on gambling, drinking and womanising. One said last night: "Effectively, he's homeless. It's so bloody sad. At the age of nearly 40, considering all he's done and all the money he's earned, he's gone back to square one and the house where he was a teenager. Advertisement "Merse is still earning money from Sky Sports and on the after-dinner speaking circuit but he just squanders it on his addictions. He drinks, he gambles, he womanises. He's an addict in a mess. He's living hand-to-mouth." Today Lloyds Bank will go to court for an order to repossess the former England midfielder's property. Merson, 39, who first admitted his addictions 14 years ago, went bust last April after failing to keep up £900-a-month repayments on his £40,000 Range Rover. The Sky pundit was declared insolvent and agreed a deal to pay off his estimated £150,000 debts over several years. His repossessed flat in upmarket Four Oaks, West Mids, is now set to be auctioned by Lloyds but is unlikely to reach full value, leaving him with more debts. Father-of-five Merson is still supporting his first wife Lorraine and the couple's three teenage boys as well as second wife Louise and their six-year-old twins. Friends also believe he still has substantial gambling debts. After last April's court hearing, he said: "I'm not bankrupt, I never have been and never will be - but I admit I came close. "I was offered bankruptcy but refused because I was determined to pay off my debts myself - the noble way." Merson first left his family home in Northolt, Middlesex, more than 20 years ago. He went on to play for Arsenal, Aston Villa, Middlesbrough and Portsmouth - winning the FA Cup, European Cup Winners' Cup, league title and league cup plus 21 caps for England. But despite wealth and fame, he soon developed addictions to alcohol, gambling and cocaine. He once admitted blowing £7million on his addictions and maintenance settlements to his ex-wives. Guest rosstoon
Its sad ralaly. If he was playing today he would be on 50k a week. I know someone who knows Wayne Fereday and he is struggling to live in a 2 bed house in Bournemouth. Also Russell Beardsmore who won the european cup in 1991 has had to sell his house ans is supporting himself via training at local schools.

Robster
he needs support and i hope someone gies him it. I wondered this when I read the story. The lad has obviously had problems for a long while. Where are friends through all of this. I dont know shit about stuff like this but I always assumed that once you hit a low like he did, his friends would be with him every step of the way to make sure he didnt do it again. I am guessing a footballer of his status knows lots of people. Its quite sad if he doesnt have any true friends who are looking out for him. Maybe it isnt that simple so I shouldnt judge. indi
I "like" the way they say "despite his fame..." as if that wasn't actually the cause of all his woes in the first place!! This fucking country is obsessed with "celebrity" to the extent that people seriously believe that all their problems will be solved if they can manage to get their ugly mug on the telly for five minutes, it's fucking pathetic!!
