I don’t think Jamie Rueben has a single clue how to do the role of director of football. Mentioning Keegan’s age is weird. It’s fine to say he’s been out of football for many years. His age is irrelevant

He’d been away from football for years and persuaded modric to sign for us before he got fucked over. Take Trafford for example I’ve absolutely no doubt Keegan gets that done early before Man City decided they needed a keeper It's probably about 20 years since Keegan last signed a player (deliberately not including any of the signings we made under Keegan whilst Ashley was here as I very much doubt he wanted many or any of them). The game and the players has moved on a lot in that time. I reckon Keegan would be like a fish out of a water trying to buy a player these days, what with players and agents being extra pampered and wanting X, Y and Z in their contracts as well as numerous clauses and whatever else. At 74 he probably just can't be arsed with any of it.
bobbydazzla
Even at 74 he’d be a better addition to the 1st team than Dominic Calvert-Lewin Edited August 6, 2025 by bobbydazzla

I read his book and he made it very clear his book was a goodbye to football. Point is we need someone because this has been embarrassing and honestly setting us back years

oldtype
We obviously need someone because right now we have nobody, but I just don’t see how Kevin Keegan is remotely relevant to that conversation.

Nah, purely hypothetical. Dunno if you’ve read it but the chapters in Keegan’s book on the spell under Ashley is really sad. It extinguished any light Keegan had left for football

Modrić’s agent was a massive fan of mine and he was about to sign for Spurs. He hopped on a train to Newcastle and all we had to do was sell the club to him. Mr Jimenez said I’ve watched him, I don’t think he is big enough or strong enough to play in the Premier League. That was the end of that, he killed it stone‑dead.”

Jack14Bojangles
I live just outside Hamburg, and Kevin Keegan has become a legend in Hamburg. When I was a teenager, he was my hero. He played for Hamburg from 1977 to 1980. A great player. I wish him all the best. I remember buying the single "Head over heels in Love" back then. Listen and watch: Musikladen (1979) The single became a top ten hit in Germany and is considered one of the few successful performances by professional footballers as singers.
