‘Kin hell! Full disclosure from Howey! Some of those stories, man. Absolutely cracked me up.

The Tino story man. Unsurprising but still hilarious 😂 Even my wife thought that  was funny.

Quite a few mid 90’s stories in that one as well.

1:12:00 is good. Can’t get enough of stories about Keegan’s tactics and methods. Howe would hate him.

Gillespie soiling himself made me spit my tea out. Mimicking Rob Lee ringing Shearer to tell on him,  and Shearer ringing him up and calling him a Makem bastard. Phil Albert’s Sid the Sexist patter and standing around with his tadger out 😂Discussing Sir Les’s ‘anatomy’… .  “We are all very close, still got all the lads’ numbers in my phone.” There’s a few who won’t be answering his calls now!

Aye the Gillespie bit where he's in the ambulance with him is absolutely class like. Poor Keith, he'll be reminded of that forever. Tells a canny story Howey mind.

I live just outside Hamburg, and Kevin Keegan has become a legend in Hamburg. When I was a teenager, he was my hero.

He played for Hamburg from 1977 to 1980. A great player. I wish him all the best. :notworthy:

I remember buying the single "Head over heels in Love" back then.
Listen and watch: Musikladen (1979)

The single became a top ten hit in Germany and is considered one of the few successful performances by professional footballers as singers.

I had to smile at that. In many ways, it epitomises KK's best quality - he was always prepared to have a go at something. No-one's going to tell him what he can or can't do. When he took over our club, he had been out of the game for 8 years. He had no coaching experience or qualifications, as far as I'm aware. That didn't deter him at all. He wanted to do it and he was going to do it.

Going to a talk-in with him tonight at Consett Empire.

Can’t imagine there’ll be much in the way of new information, but will report back with anything I think is worthwhile.

Seen him four times - three at larger venues where he was quite reserved - once at Dougie’s in Hebburn where he was absolutely brilliant and was there until about 1am talking, getting photos and signing stuff - WHAT A MAN!

Enjoy mate!

My favourite Keegan-era story, that I never want to know is true or false, is when he was stood outside SJP answering questions about us selling Cole, basically saying that we need to trust him.

A bloke in the crowd goes "Howeh, Kevin wouldn't sell him if he didn't have a plan" to which Terry Mac leaned over and chimed into Keegan's ear "yes he fucking woooouuuuuld"

Sorry for the non-compliance but I'm certain that's true. I saw him at the Sage with Terry Mac a few years ago and they basically reenacted the moment together.

One that I'm sure I've read on here is that he said that we should be above the rivalry with the mackems. Is that true? I can't find any evidence of him saying it which is a shame, as I agree with him.

Definitely happened, it's on one of the videos IIRC

Do you know which one? It's not on any of the season reviews that I watched religiously during lockdown. One of the old B&W videos?

My first guess would have been The Entertainers tbh. Definitely remember him saying it with a proper '90s curtain in the background.

As anticipated, nothing new of note really in what he said.

Peter Beardsley the best player he’s ever played with or managed.

Not a fan of VAR.

Would be a “disaster” if Eddie Howe didn’t remain as Newcastle manager for the foreseeable future.

But the thing that struck me most was that, even at 74, he still has the ability to completely command the room with his charisma. You can absolutely see why former players talk about how he got them to believe they could achieve anything. I guess it’s just a natural gift.

If anyone, not around at the time, has any doubts about why Keegan is held in such high esteem (manager wise, let alone as the transformational player he was for us) take a look at the record for his first spell. The comparisons are every PL era manager we have had, with at least a season's worth of games. The second row combines the performance of Keegan's team from the second era.

To be fair to Howe, the team in Keegan's first spell was already very much his own. Howe's record from January 2022, when we could reasonably say it was 'his team' is better (Howe's record is from  the date he was appointed 8.11.21, but he wasn't in charge on match days until 30.11.21). From January 2022 Howe has 150 games, Points Per Game (PPG) of 1.72 and a GD of 85.

Mad how much Howe's win% improves when you include the extra 41 cup games he has. Goes up from 48 to over 50%
