I know not many people like Wigan, but they really have had some talented players since they came up. Kirkland, Baines, Chimbonda, Bullard, Landzaat, Palacios, Valencia, Heskey. Shame from their point of view that they're not big enough to keep them.

I'd take scharner too. Vastly underrated IMO.

If we look at the teams potentially going down: Who would you take?

Derby: Barnes seems to be the only one slightly worth a gamble

Reading: Shorey?

Birmingham: Fabrice Muamba, Larsson?

Bolton: Diouf?

Not much quality this time round...

Your right not much this time around.

Doyle, Sonko & Hunt at Reading interest me  but mainly on the form of last season. I have always thought Kenny Miller is decent player. But these are all much of muchness & would be squad fillers & our signings this summer should be mainly about improving our starting XI.

Shorey (backup LB) and Scharner (Can play CB or DM) as squad players. If we lose N'Zogbia then perhaps Kapo would be worth a short-term deal but someone younger would be preferable. No one else even worth looking at IMO.

If Barry is on the move from Villa in the summer we need to be in for him as well. Can play DM, ML, and LB. He's got a better delivery of the ball than just about anyone in our squad. We could probably use Milner as bait to get him on the cheap, too.

I don't think we've got a hope in hell of signing Bentley.

Valencia, as mentioned, might be worth a punt.... other than that I'd say we're shopping abroad.

People keep bringing up Lennon and SWP. I don't think either are realistic or would be particularly good signings.

We should contact Ferguson today and offer him £10 million for Carrick and tell him we're naming our team to play Chelsea soon and we're thinking about naming our reserves to see if any of them are capable of doing a job in midfield next season if we don't sign Carrick.

Players from the league that I would like us to sign...

Defenders

Richard Dunne

Steve Finnan

J-A Riise

Scharner

Ben Haim

Midfielders

Lee Osman

Benayoun

S Wright-Phillips

Stephen Hunt

Forwards

Dean Ashton

Peter Crouch

Darren Bent

-------------------------------------------

Obviously don't want us to sign all of them, but its this pool of players I think we have a chance at signing.  We need a bigger squad next season.

I'd like us to sell Ameobi to Stoke and Smith to Rangers, get £8m for them two, then try to purchase the players I've higlighted in bold.

Why would Steve Finnan leave the Liverpool bench for ours? ;)

Hoping for Mariusz Lewandowski to have a good tournament for Poland. Don't know why he isn't linked with any big clubs in Europe, since I'd consider him the best player in the Polishd side (along with Boruc) and an ideal replacement for Butt. He has been playing a defensive midfielder for both Shakthar (started in 5 of their 6 champions league matches) and Poland in recent years, although he can also play as a DC if needed. Basically I consider him  to have all the qualities a good defensive midfielder needs, he's really strong, good in the air (and we really need more aerial threat), great at tackling and breaking up attacks, then he can hold the ball reasonably well and from time to time deliver a quality defense-splitting pass.

17 goals in 125 games for Shakhtar (assuming that Wiki is accurate) is also a great statistic for DMC.

Looks like it's from here:

Newcastle, who are looking to rebuild their squad over the summer, are looking for a quality left-back, and are now being linked with Riise.

Claims are being made that a £4 million deal was reached six weeks ago, and that he will sign a three-year deal worth around £30,000 a week at the north-east club.

So probably bollocks.

Keegan does want Riise though. No idea if the deal has been done.

Zarate looks better and better everytime i see him, he's definitely a player that should be on our radar, Birmingham going down and i cant see why we dont have a decent chance with him.

Not exactly being heavily linked with the big clubs and wasnt on the radar of big clubs when he first went to Birmingham.

If we sign Riise I hope he breaks his left leg in three different places in his first pre-season match. I know it's petty to hope for such things, but the thought of him playing for us is so agonisingly painful that I just can't help myself. Really can't stand the guy, and don't really rate him at all.

Dont want Riise at all!!!! If we absolutely have to take a ginger in the summer, ill rather have Kitson if Reading goes down. (Not comparing them in any other way)

Scharner has been great all year, and he is versatile as well. Would like to see him come here in the summer.

The two most important positions we have to cover are the AM and we need a true leader in midfield to take over for Butt. Again, please hear out DIABY!!:D

Wanting him to break his legs in 3 places?!?! Your one of these radical internet users that makes the opinions of people who use the internet worthless.

I know.. two places would do it, no need for overkill.
