I think there's two directions we can go with him. We continue his career here as a centre-back, or we make him a permanent fixture as a defensive midfielder. I really like the guy as a centre-back; i think he's arguably the most competent we've had since Woody. Pace, power, aerial dominance - even if with a slight lack of organisation/brains (he's just a bit too adventurous imo).

However, i think he would be a greater and more helpful figure in the side if he was in defensive midfield, particularly this season (well, i thought that before the upturn in fortunes for the current midfield/Claudio's injury). I think this is arguably a better option for us long-term, because Nicky Butt will need replacing. If we can get a very good centre-back in, and pair them with Taylor or Cacapa, then Faye could have more benefit to the side in the middle of the park.

Against Man City and Chelsea earlier this season, he dictated the play from the back of midfield. Turning players, barging the ball off them, charging through the middle of the park gaining yards - generally just being that stereotypical mean black bastard. His passing and forward play isn't particularly shoddy either; better than Butt's over the course of the season anyhow. He's looked a little clumsy at the back of late, but i'm not reading too much into that.

Either way, i think this guy is a very good player, and a very important one for the near future. He is top 6 quality imo, and i like the options he offers us.

You could have phrased that so much better you know.

Where's the keep it as it is option?

I like the back four we have now, its settling and and growing in confidence. A top class CB would be great, but i honestly don't think its needed. With NE5 with the opinion the work need to be done elsewhere, certainly for next season, possibly the season after look for Faye's replacement (long term) as long as Taylor settles down, which is a possibility in a winning team.

I haven't seen enough of him as a DMC to make a call on his abilities there, but I like him as a central defender. I'd be more than happy to start with him playing at the back next season.

Agree that Butt can't go on forever though and a new defensive midfielder is going to be a priority sooner rather than later.

Fair enough; added!

For the record, i'm not really sure btw. I'm not saying he should definitely be in the defenseive midfield, just outlining that there's a case for it. If he remains our number 1 centre-back next season, i won't complain.

I think we need two quality CB's. We need them in quick and we need them to build a partnership together over the friendlies and the start of next season. I don't really think anyone we have at the moment is good enough. Faye will do a job, but isnt consistant enough.

I'd rather he kept his place in defence.

Hopefully a replacement will be brought in for Butt in the summer. I don't think Faye is the answer in midfield, I reckon he would restrict our attacking options. I'd prefer someone in the midfield whos as physical as Faye, but who can play the ball round the park and has a better positional sense than Faye.

He's a decent centre back and I think we should keep him there, however I certainly think it's an area that we need to add to in the summer. As things are if either Faye or Taylor were to get injured we don't have any stand out candidates to step in. If we do spend big in the summer I'd like to see us splash out on a top class centre back.

I like him as a player, although he's looked slightly less assured of late. If I were Keegan I'd probably be looking to buy a first choice CB to partner Taylor or Faye, which would also give the option of Faye in midfield when needed.

He's a pretty dominant centre back in the Darren Peacock mode, in that he's not really top class in the Terry or Woodgate mode, but he's pretty solid and will do a decent job. I would prefer a specialist midifelder so I say stick with him in defence, hopefully alongside a really top class CB. Taylor's done ok recently, but the two together still aren't 100% convincing.

I like him, but costs us the goal against Birmingham and should have done better against Bent. But he's a canny player though.

I don't agree with this, I'd say Bent's header was fantastic and extremely hard to defend against, it was so well placed and even Harper had little to no chance.

I've liked Faye ever since he arrived. I'd love for us to buy another big central defender to partner him with  O0

I wouldn't be surprised if Taylor's moved on in the Summer if he can't agree a contract, with Rozehnal unlikely to return and only one fullback for each side we're going to have to buy more defenders, might as well buy improvements on what we've got.

Faye actually kept Bent pretty quiet and you are right, Bent did fantastically well to get that header in from there. It's not like he was unmarked.

Aye, Faye was goalside nice and tight but the ball just came at a perfect angle and Bent did excellently to glance it in. Don't think we can really blame Faye for that one.

The fact that Bent got a running jump on to it made it even harder to defend. Excellent finish, the crosser should have been put under more pressure though.

I don't want to see him in midfield next season, he's a bit of a clogger in there. I like him as a centre back though, wouldn't have any complaints if he was a first choice for next season, although I wouldn't seeing another class centre back brought in alongside him to 'marshall the defence' as they say. Taylor should be a sub player unless KK et al can coach some better discipline and concentration into him in the close season. I'm also interested to see whether he thinks he can get anything out of Rosenhal.

I think we probably shouldn't sell any of our defenders in the summer, providing they all want to stay, cos we have a small enough squad as it is. Even Steven Carr has looked a better right back since KK came back.
