Anelka Refused To Take Penalty

Isn't it understandable that since he's a striker but has had what, 2 games up front for Chelsea, that he'll be slightly pissed off about the whole thing? Especially since it seems his manager promised that they'd play a 4-2-2 as well.

I can understand his frustration. What i am against is that he's been at his new club - which has one of the finest squad's in the world - and he has come out after 5 months spitting his dummy out, complaining his backside off that he isn't the main man. Maybe if he actually worked for his place, and stopped whinging, and was more of a team player - teams wouldn't chuck him so quickly. Totally unprofessional thing to do, in spite of his (just about) warranted frustration.

If he's not happy, we could try to lure him up north! Would be an amazing signing tbh. Play him up front in Vidukas role :smug:

Drogba and Anelka aren't an obvious combination. I suspect that, in reality, Chelsea bought Anelka as cover.

He didn't really look like he wanted to take a penalty at all. And it was very striking how, at the end, no-one went over to console him. He seemed isolated among his team-mates, which seems to be a pattern with Anelka.

I don't get it. No matter how you feel, you have a chance to get a Champions League medal. Take the fucking penalty.

How could anyone want him here after that?

I can see why some people would still want a player of his calibre at our club... but personally, i wouldn't touch him with a bargepole and i've maintained that since Souness wanted him from Fenerbahce. He would cost a typically stupid price (every other transfer of his has included a very high fee), and just wouldn't last five minutes. Not worth the hassle, especially now approaching 30.

Entirely his own fault for signing for them in the first place. I'm sure he knew what the craic was but now has just lost patience. If he wants a game we should buy him and play him in the Viduka role in the 4-3-3. Owen Martins and Anelka would have the potential to be utterly class.

I can understand him being annoyed, but still, he should be coming on and showing the manager why he should be taken more seriously by playing his guts out on the flank instead of coming out to the papers whenever something goes wrong or he isn't happy. It's something he should talk about with Avram Grant, not the press.

I don't believe chelski ever really needed him and his appearances have borne that out. IMO, he falls into the same class as sidwell, ben haim and to a lesser extent bridge. They bought them to stop other teams getting them. Does nothing for their carreers but plenty for the old bank balance.

Agree with that.

I actually think Anelka may in hindsight wish he'd stayed at Bolton. At least he was playing every week and scoring.

IMO Anelka was purchased purely to cover for Drogba during the ANC. He must have been totally stupid to believe that Chelsea would switch to 4-4-2 or that he wouldnt be playing on the wings once Drogba returned.

Avram Grant isn't that clueless surely?

Imo should've brought on Shevchenko instead of Anelka. He's a penalty kick specialist who has missed one in the final of the CL... he would most likely had taken one in the first 6. Anelka isn't really an impact striker either, so not much to gain.

Everybody in the room I was in called him missing, you could see it in his body language.

Penalties are about bottle, and you just know Anelka has none. Terry on the other hand I fully expected to score.

When i saw Terry step up I was like "wtf" but he definitely had the eye of the tiger. Looked like he was there for business, even the run-up was emphatic and confident.

As for Anelka... I agree everyone thought he would miss. Didn't look confident at all.. I thought the only way he'll score is if Van Der Sar goes the wrong way.
