magorific
Its already been posted. Either they're lying about having no interested or lying about the approach, either way they're lying so who cares what they have th say? And they would do that why . . .? I don't need to know why they'd to it, logic tells me they have to be lying about one or the other. You don't just randomly offer to sell something to a company (for more then twice its value no less) that has no interest in buying in the first place. As I said, either they're lying about having no interest, or lying about being offered the club. Eh? How do you know that someone doesn't want to buy something off you until you ask them? Mick
Someone offered them Newcastle United. Whether it was Ashley or someone on his behalf. Deal with it. They claim that someone offered them the club, that doesn't mean it's true.

If you want to sell something you find out what companies have let it be known that they're interested in buying something of that kind. You don't just randomly make offers to the first name you see in the Yellow pages.. for £420 million

Mick
Eh? How do you know that someone doesn't want to buy something off you until you ask them? You don't pick people at random if you have something to sell, think about how you've gone about selling something. I doubt very much that you picked up the phone and just dialled anybody in the hope that they were after whatever you were trying to sell.
Mick
Again, why would they lie? This is getting daft, why would we contact a random company when the club gets offers on a regular basis?
Kimbo
Why would we approach them if they hadn't approached us first to show they're interested? It makes no sense.
Mr Logic
All it said was approached about a deal, makes no mention of what kind of deal. If Ashley wants to sell it's clearly up to him, but I think he is a bit more astute than to approach a company with no record of investment in sports teams on the off-chance they'd be interested. There are some big players in the City with no love lost for maverick Ashley, and the press can be bought and sold.
Liam Liam Liam O
Again, why would they lie? This is getting daft, why would we contact a random company when the club gets offers on a regular basis? magorific
Again, why would they lie? This is getting daft, why would we contact a random company when the club gets offers on a regular basis? Offers on a regular basis from who????? What is so daft about the owner of a company sounding out a private equity firm (ie a firm whose business is buying - or buying into - other companies) about their interest in buying him out? What's so daft about pointing out that the same private equity firm have no reason whatsoever to lie to the BBC?

We get offers for the club from different people and it's roughly once a week that this happens. As for why the company would lie, no idea but I'm sure the publicity they'll be getting will do them no harm.
Tooj
Right, here is my totally madeup story explaining why Ashley bought the club, and why he is going to be here for a long time: Mike Ashley and Paul Kemsley are at one of those posh casinos. Ashley has made thousands of pounds betting on the number 17, while Kemsley has lost a hell of a lot. Ashley: "More chance of Spurs winning the league than you winning anything tonight mate." Kemsley: "Well the chance of winning the league is impossible, so I think I'm better off staying on the table." Ashley: "Why is it impossible?" Kemsley: "Top four, keeping everyone else out etc" Ashley: "It's not impossible, its just that spurs are s***" Kemsley: "You wouldn't do any better. I bet 100 quid that you couldn't win the league with any non-top-4 team. Ashley: "Ok, then" The two shake hands, and Kemsley looks on slightly nervously as Ashley bids farewell and trudges away through the smoky room. This story is laughable. There was a smoking ban in casinos when Ashley bought United so Kemsley would have a perfect view of him walking off. Joker.

Guest neesy111
Right Guys I think we should all take a step back from this, I can't believe that we are discussing this for so long the story came from the sun, so this makes the story 10% true if it we're true, ashley is entilted to sell, but making at 420M, means he likely doesn't want to sell if some1 wanted to buy us for that much, must have quite a big investiment and wants the club quite badly to pay a 100% on top of what the club is well BUT i suspect if there was a deal, it would happen after august, as he still wants the best for the club, he is a fan, he could of kept Big Sam and not pay him off, he managed to persuade King Kev to come back he has the right idea about the wage bill has put down solid foundations to get us back into the top4 over time
