the depor president didn't go to venezuela,he stayed in spain according to that depor forum.

i guess we are still working on the deal then hopefully

Or perhaps club presidents generally don't travel with their team on pre-season.

I think the article said that Burdisso was our alternative if we are unable to land Coloccini. I think Coloccini's agent knows this, which is why he is so nervous.

I am also struggling to understand why some people feel that £8/£9 million is paying way over the odds??? He is a gritty Argentine International defender, who seems like he could adapt to the premier league very well indeed.

Someone mentioned Curtis Davies of Villa costing £10 million and rightly so as he isn't even anywhere near a full international place.

How about Kaboul!!! £8 million they paid for him, and he is set to be sold for a similar amount this summer.

Tbh even if we paid the extra Depor want it would still be a good deal, but it really is the principle of the whole thing. It's disgusting to raise the price like that at the last minute, having already agreed to the deal in the first place.

i'm hopeful this transfer saga will be finished by friday

read on the depo forum, that a lot of clubs have said they wouldn't be dealing with depo again, after having similar problems to what we've had

Overpaying for him by quite a large margin imo, but then that seems to be the case for practically every decent player moving in this window so far.

How much do you think he's worth?

think his price is bang on - consider woodgate (8m to spurs right?)

woodgate is probably the better defender by far but his price lower due to him being a cripple...9m for a 26 year old regular argentinian CB, good value to me

I dont think Woodgate is better than Coloccini. Of course there is always question about how he adapt to PL and manage to living his live in England, but as a player - Coloccini is a pure class.

Im a really big fan of Argentina national team, watch all their games if possible, and im more than excited that there has (even thought those are nothing but rumours) been some kind of connections between NUFC and players like Aimar and Coloccini.

I love players with charisma and natural f*** off attitude for opponents. Coloccini might not be a meanest motherfucker for my taste, but he can fit the bill.

No the casino thing is correct, the West Ham directors didn't recognise wor Mike and were bragging in front of him at the blackjack table about how they were ripping the Toon off over Dyer

We asked for more money because we re-valued him. We accepted the initial bid but then Mort (who had basically no previous football negotiating skills at this piont) was told he was worth more.

Slavery

by Chris Stanton, 30 July 2008 Setanta

The outspoken agent of Fabricio Coloccini has told Newcastle they will have to look elsewhere for a new defender, claiming the wantaway Deportivo La Coruna star is an example of slavery in football.

The Magpies have had a bid rejected for the Argentina international who is desperate to make the move to England.

Depor’s president Augusto Cesar Lendoiro is holding out for at least a €12 million (around £9.5 million) fee for the player and Marcello Lombilla believes it will prohibit the transfer.

Lombilla told El Ideal Gallego: “I spoke to the directors of Newcastle to explain to them and told them that they should look for another player because I know what their limit is and I know they can’t afford the money Lendoiro is asking for."

Lombilla continued with an attack on Depor's president, mimicking the comments of Cristiano Ronaldo earlier this summer by accusing Lendoiro of slavery.

“Three years ago he promised us that if there was an offer of €10 million for Coloccini, the player would be able to go," said Lombilla.

“Last summer he didn’t let him go to Zaragoza and now that we have a major offer, it’s the same.

“Slavery was abolished years ago. Will Lendoiro have the conscience to be able to sleep easy after ruining the career of a player?”

Lets hope that's the agent trying to soften Depor's stance, because it would be criminal if we let our preffered target get away because we won't pay an extra million when we have a billionaire owner.

so is the buying out his contract thing out the window then?

You have to invoke Article 17 within a period of days after the end of the season so he can't do it until May 2009 at the earliest.

We can't afford him :D Rightio...

Get plan by the agent to force Depo's hand, especially as he knows they need the money.

I'm sure he is doing all his can. After all, if deal falls thru, so does his commission

If Coloccini realy wants to play for NUFC, he can just refuse to play for Deportivo.
