How do we know we haven't been badgering the FA about out? As we all know we are hardly a club that shouts every action to the press these days.

To be fair, we dont. It just seems (and granted, this is from the thread bare info that we have) that these two matters have been dealt with in a very peculiar manner. Its not as if the Guttierez deal is a last minute signing, we've had nearly 6 weeks to get his papers.

We don't know anything about the club's "performance" with Coloccini and Jonas.

Canny ironic that you cite Jonas as 'dragging on' when the first mention of it was on the website that he'd signed.

howay man surely you can see there's a question to ask here wullie?

how isn't the jonas thing dragging on if his papers aren't sorted after this amount of time?  unless i've misread what everyones saying about his chances of playing in which case i apologise

if i've not misread it what's the crack like?  we play him in pre-season games and appears to be our major ray of hope yet he can't play for us when we actually really need him?

alls well then?

We don't know anything about the circumstances though. If Mallorca are taking the piss, I'm sure the club aren't sitting on their hands not doing anything about it. Again we come back to only thinking something is happening when it's in the paper.

Regardless of injuries to either side, this will be a simple and comprehensive home win.

Yup. In fact although I'm pissed off the Jonas and Coloccini situations look like they'll be unresolved, Owen, Martins and Viduka will be missing and we'll be going into the game with a generally crap side, our season starts against Bolton. We were always going to lose at Old Trafford, so I'm not going to lose too much sleep over it.

dave, genuine question here given our 'stances' during the summer; what do you think of the clubs "performance" with colo & guti?

what i'm getting at is that i can't think of another club, perhaps granted there aren't that many of them as you don't tire of pointing out, who have transfers dragging on like we do

in fact the villa transfer of shorey/young is a right slap in the face for the "transfers don't happen overnight crowd" - so what's going wrong with us then?

I realise your question wasnt aimed at me but it does raise some things i've been concerned about.

The Guttierez registration farce seems incredibly amateurish. If we dont have his registration now (and the bugger was signed at the very end of June!) when are we going to get it? If Mallorca have refused to release it, why haven't we been badgering UEFA to step in? I cant imagine any other clubs just sitting back with their thumb up their arse waiting for a hacked off Mallorca to play ball.

Secondly the Colo deal. In some ways the media black out is not a bad thing but its misleading and worrying for the clubs supporters when nothing is mentioned. We've been on the brink of signing this guy for weeks now and still no confirmation, not even an update on if and when he will be joining.

I really think neither will be involved at Old Trafford and that alone will show us up to be amateurs. This shite just wouldnt be tolerated at other clubs.

agreed mate, mentioning other clubs puts it in perspective really - wouldn't be tolerated nor should it

who knows maybe they'll both play and we'll look like tits?

I've said before I think the Jonas thing is a bit of a joke and that we should have seen some definitive action taken/answers given by now. However, I'm not going to beat up on the club about it because I just don't know the details. This is even more the case with Coloccini.

There's a bit of a difference between signing players from different countries/leagues too btw.

fair point wullie, look at it another way; why announce the signings if they can't play?  stinks of amateurism

you reckon fergie would accept one of the glazers wearing a berbatov top before the deal was done - fair enough ashleys the owner but that makes it worse really, not better

you just can't do it can you?  take the step to say maybe somethings not perfect in mikes magical wonderland

if neither of those two play sunday there's no other conclusion than they've made a total cunt of both deals

if they do both play then what's with not confirming the deals?

Thats fair enough, i just wish the club would be more forthcoming with information about such things. Okay, dont speak to the bullshit merchants in the press but its essential for a club/business to keep its fans/ customers informed of matters that concern them. Use the bloody website! A lot of us give a hell of a load of time/money/ effort into supporting the club and I for one, dont like being kept in the dark to the extent we have this summer.

Who is to say Coloccini would have been fit enough to play this game anyway? Didn't he start pre-season later than we did?

not a bad point, doesn't detract from the issue at hand though does it?

You said "if neither of those two play sunday there's no other conclusion than they've made a total cunt of both deals" does this point still stand if Coloccini wouldn't have played even if was confirmed last week.

Basically none of us know what is happening in regards to Jonas registration or Coloccinis signing so far so we can't draw on conclusions unless we are basing them on guess work.

Agree with that. They should have at least said something about Coloccini by now, even if it was just that the fee had been agreed or whatever. They obviously remain confident of sorting the Jonas registration thing but I don't see it happening this late on.

oh very good dave...but you can't cede ground - never, once, in any discussion we've had about the club post shepherd have you ever (as i recall) suggested all might not be as it seems without a massive proviso such as we have to wait until sep 1st before we can judge anything

the league is 38 games long mate, we're expected to just give up on man u away for what fucking reason?

It's harsh to blame the club for this. I'm sure they've been doing everything they could to get it resolved, it's obviously complicated by him being part owned by that Argentinian club.

Fuck knows what's happening with this though, I can only imagine they are still in contract negotiations, and as we can see with Owen, the club don't seem to mind letting these things drag on.

I think the biggest mistake is the Ashley + Coloccini shirt stupidity. Why wear that and then four days later, still not inform the fans about whats going on?

One would expect the club to go through all the implications before taking the deal on though. It's pretty obvious Mallorca weren't going to be very pleased about us taking a player they feel is so valuable, and I'm disappointed we've committed to it without being certain from the outset. He looks a good player, but he's useless without his registration.

point 1 why announce it then?  let him play in the friendlies at the expense of people who can play in the league

point 2 maybe, personally thought terms were agreed before we'd reached an agreement with depor?

Aye, it's looking more and more ridiculous. There should have been something said after the game.

I still think it might be because we're close to someone else (KK's comments have hinted at this), but after all this time it's just getting daft.

sorry dave but i have to push it, so that's really not good enough is it?  for a multi million pound business of a football club, it's just not

for my part i reckon we'll end up paying a sweetener to mallorca or the argies to move it on

No more useless to us now than the superstar players we're going to sign on August 31st though, which seems to be okay.

He IS a Newcastle player, and he'll play as soon as the paperwork is done by FIFA. The transfer will still be a bargain whenever the registration goes through.

If that's meant to be a dig, I don't think we'll be signing any 'superstar players' and can't remember saying we would. Although Coloccini seems to be coming (?) very highly rated. All I've said is that we should judge when the window closes. As things stand we need Gutierrez.

Wouldn't be surprised if it was some disagreement over agent fees tbh.
