Guest SpinTheBlackCircle
28 September 2008 First Aid for Keegan By David Leggat Aiden McGEADY is set for an £11milli on move to Newcastle ... if Kevin Keegan returns as boss. Keegan is a long time admirer of Celtic's Scottishborn Republic of Ireland winger. And it is believed he thought he was on the brink of landing McGeady just before the August transfer window slammed shut, and was furious when it was claimed owner Mike Ashley pulled the plug on the deal. Three days later Keegan quit as the Newcastle gaffer, but if the Nigerian bid to buy the club from Ashley goes through he will return. And one of the first things he will do is start the ball rolling again to try and tempt Celtic to part with 22-year-old McGeady. http://www.people.co.uk/sport/football/tm_headline=first-aid-for-keegan%26method=full%26objectid=20757770%26siteid=93463-name_page.html

Benwell Lad
Well at least Ashley did something smart then. Shame he didn't pull the plug on Keegan putting Taylor on an improved and extended contract and giving Faye to Stoke, as well.

It was said at the time that Ashley personally intervened to give Taylor a new contract.

Its good for the club to have Taylor nailed down on a long deal, means we can get daft money for him like Anton Ferdinand instead of peanuts if we do decide we've had enough of him. Or you ones of these special people who wants to see him leave for nothing regardless how it financially effects the club?

I guess your unaware that the Vice President (Player Recruitment) does the contracts. Also Keegan does not have the power to sign McGeady but he is responsible for the sale of Faye.`

I think it's been made more than clear by now that Keegan did absolutely NOTHING wrong and was right to walk out on the club, while Dennis Wise was recruited to single handedly cause the destruction of Newcastle United. Or something like that.................
Cronky
We do have problems at CB now, and the sale of Faye looks more and more ridiculous. He was by far and away our best defender last season, and was a very important player for us. As for Taylor's contract, it sounded to me that Keegan was keen for him to be offered a new one, Wise wasn't so keen, and Ashley intervened to break the deadlock and prevent a row. Keegan got it wrong on both counts. You wonder just how much his bad relationship with Wise was influencing his judgement.

Like wise he cant get the praise for Colo & Jonas signing or be blamed for Taylors contract. As the Newcastle United statement made clear: It is a fact that Kevin Keegan worked within that structure from 16th January 2008 until his resignation. It is a fact that Kevin Keegan, as manager, had specific duties in that he was responsible for the training, coaching, selection and motivation of the team.
