Elliottman
I'd really like to see us play this against the scum Given Beye Colo Bassong Taylor (DM) Jonas Barton Guthrie Duff Ameobi/Xisco Martins Would it not be better to stick with the 4-4-2 rather than just randomly change to a completely new system for such a big game? Nope! I'm a tactical genius Taylor as a def medfielder is bad enough, but as a def def midfielder?! ha ha
Guest newcastle4life
No better time for a win than a derby good performance and there is a good chance it will happen. 2-1 Martins and Shola.

Im not sure I've seen any team play that system tbh. Is uppose we sort of did when we play tino as a right wingback. That system doesn't even make sense. Surely this "DM" would be better employed as a defender? Regardless...he would probaly end up playing in defense anyway as there are two box to box midfielders in front of him. The reasoning behind it is quite simple Beye Colo and Bassong are all strong lads that don't piss about half as much as Taylor does when clearing and I think they would perform better as a back 3. Playing Taylor in the midfield holding role would... A) Give us that badly needed height and strength in that position B) Any errors he's still prone too the back 3 can mop up C) Can be involved more going forward as he can stick them away when he gets chance

JoeyBartoon
Taylor is s***, so it wouldn't really matter where he played. The fact that you wouldn't keep him centre back says it all. He is a geordie, though. Bassong and Colo, defo.
LooneyToonArmy
No Martins? Newcastle (from): Given, Harper, Beye, Edgar, Enrique, N'Zogbia, Taylor, Coloccini, Cacapa, Bassong, Tozer, Butt, Guthrie, Geremi, Duff, Barton, Jonas, Doninger, Xisco, Ameobi, Carroll, Donaldson, Ranger, Danquah. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/eng_prem/7674086.stm

Ketsbaia
very very nervous. i hate derby day so much and a few days ago was certain sunderland will win. but now, im getting slightly optimistic - dunno why. given beye taylor coloccini bassong duff butt guthrie nzogbia martins shola BENCH: harper, enrique, cacapa, geremi, jonas, barton, xisco JFK might go with geremi over duff/zoggy, while barton will come on in the 2nd half this 11 has geordies (taylor, ameobi), players with experience of this derby (nzogbia, given, butt) and the likes of duff and martins who have played in last seasons games and i think this will ultimately help us. COME ON TOOOOOOOOON

True, he still has the smile and the glint in the eye though, young at heart. Let's hope we can give him a derby victory to celebrate.

Yorkie
I really hate to sound morbid, i'm purely going off claims made earlier in the year, but if this is Sir Bobby's last season watching football then i pray to God that we give him something to be really proud of. I know, motivation and other such related matters fueled by sentiment can be frowned upon by some, but i genuinely love the man and he really does bleed black and white. He lives and breathes football and it'd be tragic for him to bow out depressed about the thing he loves the most. That photo really has ignited, for me anyway, a desire for us to utterly smash them tomorrow. I've been wanting us to win of course, but Christ. Howay. Fucking hope we hammer em. Jamie
What i think the team will be: Given Beye Taylor Collo Bassong Duff Butt Guthrie N'Zogbia Martins Ameobi That's probably not what i would want, but it will have to do, as i am almost certain that will be the starting
Rich
What's this about Martins? A mistake? BBC regularly miss players off their squad lists.
Yorkie
Can't see him dropping Geremi/changing the starting line-up now that Beye's back, tbh. Nor should he, either (unless Jonas and Barton are fully match fit, which is impossible imo).
Segun Oluwaniyi
What's this about Martins? A mistake? When I was checking to see if he was fit for Man City on the BBC, he wasn't listed in that squad either. I'm thinking it's just a continuation of the same mistake by the BBC. Rich
Same team if Butt's fit, I suppose, although with a much stronger bench: Harper, Cacapa, Enrique, Barton, Gutierrez, N'Zogbia and Xisco.
