The Newcastle United Transfer Thread: D-Day [Spoiler: Not Much Happens]

Recommended Posts

Heard it wasn't Barton but Butt going to Bolton.  Can only pray there's some truth in it.

Now that will really have me feeling optimistic about this window.

If we rid ourselves of Barton and Butt I would be really optimistic about us landing some quality midfielders as we surely wouldn't dump them otherwise.

Or it could be like the Milner situation whereby we neglect to replace them with the players wanted. It's hard to feel optimistic about things right now :undecided:

The departure list is a long one on Tyneside, and if reports are to be believed, Magpies gaffer Joe Kinnear may be set to offload as many as five senior players in order to raise finances for signings in the January transfer window.

The St. James' Park club are yet to receive any significant contribution for transfers from owner Mike Ashley, and Joe Kinnear has been slapped with a sell-before-you-buy directive. With mounting interest in several of his stars, the manager has no choice but to give in to his financial constraints and recoup whatever he can to strengthen a squad plagued by injuries and lack of form.

Shay Given may be set to complete a £12m move to Manchester City, Charles N'Zogbia is at the centre of a £8m tug-of-war between Aston Villa, and Tottenham, while Joey Barton has been linked with a £4m move to Portsmouth, as Geremi's £1m transfer to Turkish club Besiktas looms in the background. The fifth player is thought to be youngster Andy Carroll, after Spaniard Xisco's move back to his homeland was hampered by FA regulations. The grand total, even without Carroll's transfer, equals a reasonable war chest of £25 million.

The question is, who should Kinnear aim to buy? The Newcastle gaffer has been linked with a host of players in the transfer window so far: John-Joe O`Toole (Watford), Michael Kightly (Wolves), Fabian Delph (Leeds), Kevin Dolye (Reading), Stephen Hunt (Reading), Joe Ledley (Cardiff), Kyle Naughton (Sheffield United), Stephen Quinn (Sheffield United), , Paddy Kenny (Sheffield United), Leighton Baines (Everton), Stephen Warnock (Blackburn), Barry Ferguson (Rangers), Madjid Bougherra (Rangers), Aiden McGeady (Celtic), Urby Emanuelson (Ajax), Loic Remy (Nice), and Vegard Forren (Molde), among a galaxy of others.

Only time will tell what will happen on Tyneside, but most fans feel that they have been once again betrayed by their owner, and that the sacrifice of several of the club's stars, aside from unsettled Frenchman Charles N'Zogbia, may be unwarranted.

This about sums the whole farce up.

OH My GOD

do you guys forgot this????

Who really want Mido come here

Let say again !!!

From The TimesAugust 28, 2007

Racist slurs of ‘drunk’ Newcastle fans fuels Mido’s thirst for goals

Mido, the Middlesbrough forward subjected to unsavoury chants during a stormy Tyne-Tees derby on Sunday, has defended his actions in confronting the Newcastle United fans who singled him out for racist abuse.

The Egypt international has labelled as drunkards those among the 3,000-strong travelling support who risked tarnishing Newcastle’s reputation with regular renditions of an offensive chant to overshadow an enthralling encounter at the Riverside Stadium.

“I just think it’s ridiculous,” the forward, signed for £6 million from Tottenham Hotspur earlier this month, said. “They were taking the p*ss. Maybe some of them were drunk or something.” The chants were too vociferous and sustained to be written off as the actions of a mindless few among Newcastle supporters, who are usually regarded as a credit to their club.

But you forget, we said horrible, nasty things about Islam. Funny how Mido seems to forget that after just a couple of months, must be the £ signs flashing in front of his eyes.

IMO all of those players should go, appart from Given.  We need to totally get rid of the shit overpaid injury prone moaning losers in the squad and start again with better younger players who are happy to play in one of the best stadiums in the country.  Unfortunately this isn't the window to do it, if we sell all those players we'll them need to sign 4 or 5 good quality players in this window to improve, which is important if we're going to make sure of staying in the league.  Which isn't going to happen.

You can see it now, we'll offload players to whoever will stump up the cash but since no bugger wants to join us we'll end up with a load of surplus cash from sales, which Ashley will nicely take a fat slice of (if not all of it).

Nah I still don't believe for a second he's that stupid.

It's basically what he's done with 50% of the Milner money. Where's that £6million? Surely that could be used to buy at least one or two decent players instead of us having to sell first.

Selling one player and finding yourself unable to replace him, or simply deciding not to replace him is quite different to selling 4 or 5 players and not replacing them, that's called guaranteeing relegation and isn't in the fat pricks interests.

It'd be 4.5m once you've taken away what we had to give Leeds.

We spent more than we brought in last transfer window.

Pompy and Bolton have offers turned down for Barton, guess who his agent is btw

http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,12876_4769700,00.html

Newcastle are believed to be holding out for a sum in the region of £6.5million for Barton as they look to recoup most of the fee they paid for him in the summer of 2007.

The fee was only £5.8m, wasn't it??

If we are holding out for £6.5m, then that would be a profit.... and a bloody miracle!

Noone noticed the new link to Riise on .com?

Trying not to?

Link?

I have nowt against Riise coming in as he has experience fo the league - But it'll be a shame if him coming in means Enrique is moved on, rather than as competition.
