How many on this site already have the money Owen got and can afford to say no to the last wagepack?

Owen is a rich as fuckface who can afford to do such a thing as not taking the last payment without hurting his economy just to help the club he has royaly fucked ffs, how can you even compare Owen to an opinion of a working class person?

And anyone who had any sense of morality would walk away feeling mightily ashamed that they had managed to dupe the money off hard-working fans. However Owen is motivated by money, it doesn't matter that he is worth millions, and that the £2 million "loyalty" bonus and nearly £500,000 for the extra month is more than most of us will have in our lifetimes. He couldn't give a fuck, its all about the cash for Mr Owen, always has been, always will be.

Season tickets would have been the same price whether Owen was or wasn't at the club, so don't make it sound like it's us that are paying his wages.

And we aren't ?

Who is, then ?

Santa Claus ?

Stan Boardman, Jimmy Tarbuck ?

The way he's gone about things, I'd say the Sunderland supporters club actually.

i think you'll find we would of had 2-3 other players in who would of contributed much more than the little piece of shit

Going by the contribution of the vast majority of the other 20 or so squad members, I very much doubt it.

Well, not really. It's not like he was throwing bongo parties till 3 a.m. every morning and snorting coke from a stripper's tits. As far as he's concerned, he might not have scored the goals, but he put in the work, ate the right stuff, got enough sleep etc. etc. You can be sure he doesn't feel any guilt at all about his performances for NUFC, even if he'll be the first to agree he's disappointed.

He's 29 now, and currently a former European Player of the Year who's been unlucky with injuries. This is his last chance at a massive jackpot before he retires to breed horses. If he stayed at NUFC for even a season, he'd not only take a big pay cut, but he'd be a 30-year-old Championship player who's not getting any better, and his earning potential for the remainder of his career would be perhaps a third of what it is right now if he plays his cards right. Any working-class person with an ounce of sense would do exactly the same thing.

£30,000 a week from football for a few more years and then however much he makes from his horses is substantially more than the average joe will ever make tbh though

Doesn't work like that though. 10 years on £30k pw would be more that enough for anyone, but everyone takes what they can. Everyone in top level football is a mercenary. I wouldn't expect Owen to be any different just because he's not justified his wages so far, and I certainly wouldn't use it as a stick to beat him with compared to any of the overpaid shower of shite that helped us go down.

Sure, but it won't keep the Owens going for all that long in the style to which they are accustomed. I mean, I go to work on a bike and he takes his chopper :(

But not quite mercenary enough to join Citeh. Lol.

i remember watching something a few years back saying its difficult for players to take massive pay cuts i.e 100k to 30k, due to diferent schemes and such they pay into. Pensions etc

some of them jut cant do it, which may explain why a lot are happy to sit around on massive wages without playing. Maybe someone else can go into more details, but it did make sense what they were saying.

It's all relative anyway though. When I was on 18k a year I was desperate to break 20k, so on and so on.

Everyone wants to better themselves in their profession and increase their rewards... seems irrelevant that Michael Owen earns more than people in 'normal jobs', that's not the market he's operating in.

(Obviously morally the whole market is questionable, but it's not up to one player to change that)

That's the smart ones. The rest end up doing what Michael Jackson and MC Hammer did, and spunking it all away living like the Pasha of Egypt.

I was so elated when we signed Mickey Owen.  The chase, the sky footage of him walking with Shearer and Souness, the final confirmation of his signature.  That goal he scored when he and Shearer were celebrating together at Blackburn, the goal he scored from that Zoggy cross against Wigan - I thought to myself, wow, we have Michael Owen..The injury at Spurs, the weak comeback, that WC injury, and then he was nearly lost to me - until KK came and gave him a new lease on life, and those goals...Sunderland, Spurs away....

And now?

F**k off Owen, wish you'd never come really, I thought so highly of you and - in looking for a player at the Toon who would lift me like Big Al did before you, you uterly pissed on our shirt with how poorly you disgraced it.
