Carroll's more useful to US because he has natural talent and he has a reason to go out on the pitch beyond his wage slip, when previously we've had talented players who couldn't be arsed because of the recent predicaments the club found itself in. Rooney is one of the best players in the world, Carrolls had a good 6 months. James Beattie had a good 6 months for stoke, Crouch for Southampton.
