West Ham agree fee in region of £15m with Liverpool for Andy Carroll

Makes more sense than most of yours ill give you that

You're saying it's difficult to sign a player who will greatly improve us, who wants to come here and is available at an attainable price

Sign him and a young backup striker for a few million and not 1 person would say we've had a bad/average window.

If you're referring to Debuchy, no. If the details of that come out & we've missed him by a few million, then its obviously a failure. But more due to negotiation than us being unwilling to meet his cost, i think we've just pushed our luck to far myself.

Outside of that as far as im aware, Pards has come out & said our other targets are happy at their clubs. Seeing as many of our targets tend to be in strong sides already, yeah its not easy at this point to upgrade the team. In comparison to sides like Reading, West Ham or Championship clubs whos spending keeps being compared to ours. As for young striker, Rhodes went for 8m. Maybe the value for money isnt there at the moment when compared to what we already have? Our scouting team probably knows better than we do huh.

Rhodes is an awful example. We'd never spend that much on an untested player. A £2-3 million striker from abroad would and should have been a perfectly reasonable signing given our much vaunted scouting team. Added to £8million-ish for Debuchy and we'd have vastly improved the team/squad for under £15million, which is a very realistic figure for us to be spending at this stage.

I know, I know, balance sheets etc.

The type of football Fat Sam is going to make him play makes me sad

This.  He is a better footballer than that.

Interesting how many West Ham players the agent Mark Curtis now has on his books as well as the manager.  Hadn't realised that Matt Jarvis was one of his.  He's managed to sign up a couple of the young ones there as well - no doubt due to Nolan's influence.

Someone needs to put that Guess Who Wins Again Mike Ashley image for this thread after yesterday..imagine us paying 17 million for him and he pulls his hamstring in his 1st game back. This thread would have gone into overload

Looked very good today and a lot like the player we sold, rather than the one under Daglish. Quality finish from Nolan for the first goal as well, quite enjoyed seeing them back playing together in a strange way.

Why wouldn't the pair of them look good yesterday? If ever a manager was designed to get the best out of a big striker and set piece goal poaching midfielder it's fat Sam. It's a much better place for Carroll to play his football than Liverpool or Newcastle really. We've moved on since then.

Has it been mentioned that Rodgers has said that they can bring Carroll back in January if they want?

They bring him back, sell him to us in January and spend the money on bad players imo.

With our current tactics he might actually be worth the monies.

I think the loan deal is for the season.

If they are so hard up for cash, then they would have been better off selling him to us because they would have had it all paid up front and then could have staggered payments for any players they bought in.  If they sell him to West Ham next year, then the payments will be over a lengthy contract as West Ham are skint themselves.

Mind you they spent £26m on Allen and Borini so they have not planned their transfer activity very well.

Maybe they are hoping he will regain some form at West Ham knowng he will be played more then he will at Liverpool.

Rodgers himself said they could bring him back "only in January". They wanted to bring in Dempsey as a replacement but couldn't afford him.

I don't think we even offered money for Carroll btw. Just a loan deal with an option to buy in a year.

Didn't we offer to loan Carroll with the notion that Liverpool would still pay the bigger % of his wages.

We were really taking the piss there.
