Umer
I've been off here for a while, its amazingly gone so negative! We played a depleted team against the top of table side and got spanked (even when we were in the champions league we were getting beat by man utd 6-2 at home, so whats new?), the owner has taken us off the market (well no he hasn't if anyone comes in with an offer he'd sell, so again nothings changed), and Given says he is thinking about leaving (but lets face it I'm sure he's thought that every transfer window). Everything has just been magnified cos of the loss. Considering the utter sh*t we've been through this past year I thought everyone would be used to it by now!!!! Unbelievable how a loss can make it all disaster and panic stations all of a sudden. Bet if we get a couple of wins the mood will change straight back again! Right the match! I'm well looking foward to this, and really hopefull we can pull of a surprise result! Hull are on a horrible run, and even when they did put in a half decent performance against Villa they still lost. If we get the first goal here that would really kill their confidence. I think the best we can field considering our injuries will be: -------------Given------------ Taylor---Colo--Bassong-Zog Jonas---Butt---Guthrie--Duff ----------Owen--Carroll------ Its a one off game, and we can have Colo & Bassong starting in the middle I'll be quite confident that we can at least get a draw... maybe a 0-0 or a 1-1 something like that. But if Owen is up for it I'd expect a win. Geremi really needs to play if Owen is... but I'm sure if Butt is fit enough to start he'll get that place. Was really impressed with Carroll when he came on against Wigan, look forward to seeing what he can do with Owen. I think their main threat will be corners... Turner is imense at winning headers in the opposition box... and we're not the best at defending them! With any luck he'll be rested though. Prediction... 1-1! Then beat them in a replay when we have Martins back (fingers crossed!)

Dan Gleebals
Ranger might get 20 minutes from what I've read in the paper today. Kinnear saying you can't throw young lads in aged 17, but you can dip them in and back out again with the odd cameo here and there. Hopefully Kazenga will get at least half an hour. Joe Kinnear pledges to help develop youngsters NEWCASTLE United manager Joe Kinnear has revealed he will not interrupt Nile Ranger’s development by throwing him in the deep end amidst the Magpies’ current injury crisis. United head to Hull City tomorrow and Kinnear will be forced to include a few youngsters to bolster his squad for the trip to the KC Stadium. With Oba Martins, Mark Viduka and Shola Ameobi all struggling with injuries, Kinnear has to put some faith in Geordie boy Andy Carroll, but with little cover in the squad, exciting teenage striker Ranger has been thrust back into the picture. Londoner Ranger has bagged 17 goals for the reserve and Academy sides this term, but Kinnear is determined to protect the youngster. He told the Chronicle: “The kids will come into the fringes again at Hull. “With people like Nile Ranger you have to be careful. “He has a great future ahead but you don’t put him in against class players in his first match. “It’s a case of nurturing them and giving them 20 minutes here and there. “They only need a flavour of it at that age and you can’t give them anything that is too sensational.” And Kinnear feels that with the stakes so high for Newcastle at the moment, with the black-and-whites looking to keep their season alive in the FA Cup and secure Premier League safety, it would be the wrong environment to blood kids, even though his options are limited. He said: “You need to see they take strong tackles in a game because this is a tough business we are in. “You need to find out if they can cope with the atmosphere. “It’s different if it is the end of the season and it doesn’t matter because you’re safe. “You can then sit down and say ‘we expect this’ or ‘we want this’ and see if they can handle it. “At the moment we aren’t able to do that.” http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/nufc/newcastle-united-news/2009/01/02/joe-kinnear-pledges-to-help-develop-youngsters-72703-22592229/ I've read that three times now and I still can't decide if it means he wants to protect him by not playing him at all or giving him the odd 20 minutes. That is total bollocks. Look no further than Owen to realise that JK.. Need more examples, Rooney, Milner (to an extent).. If you are good enough, you are good enough. If anything, this is the time to play them and NOT protect them. After all, with fook all to spend in the transfer windom (apparently) and a few more injuries, we might have no choice but to play them further into the season - we might be in the total shit then (more pressure). Then again, we have Carrol and Xisco before him and others, so who knows what he would do. Arsenal have proven you can turn out a young side and do well. Not saying we should risk our 3rd round on a youth side, but a mixture of young and experienced would be no bad thing at the moment.

I think when it comes to protection, he should be looking along the lines of protection from the TV and the media. Ferguson did a great job with Giggs when he made sure he did no interviews for years while all the hullabaloo surrounded him in the early 90's. oldtype
We'll get to see with this match whether Kinnear has actually lost the dressing room or not. If it's a Houghton-esque disaster, the answer is yes.
Robster
Going into the transfer window with more negatives than positives appearing on the horizon about how much we may be spending or adding to the squad, a defeat today would be disasterous for us. Frankly speaking, disasterous is our campaign so far. I do not think FA Cup defeat will change that in any way.

Thespence
Would be funny to play Given and get him cup-tied It would lower his value. No it wouldn't he would be cup tied for the FA CUP not the CL ffs. Yes it would, no champions league team will get him, and whoever does will want him to play in the cup ffs. Your living in the past if you think the clubs linked with signing Given would be arsed if he was unable to play in the FA Cup.
Guest Jawesome
I really don't care about any of the cups now. I'm not going to give a shit if we win, lose or draw. Today is all about the performance of each player as an individual and as part of the team.

Pilko
I agree with Jawesome. In fact, my list of things that will make me pleased about this game read in exactly this order. 1) We play well. 2) Given starts. 3) Some young lads such as Ranger, LuaLua, Kadar and Carroll given pitch time. 4) Result. Not much to reveal we only have about 11 fit senior players. I can't understand this. Out are Smith, Gonzalez, Barton, Cacapa, Martins, Beye and Viduka. Doubts are Ameobi, Butt and Enrique. Even without the doubts we still have: Given, Harper Coloccini, Taylor, Bassong, Edgar, (Kadar) Geremi, Guthrie, Duff, Jonas, N'Zogbia (LuaLua) Owen, Xisco, Carroll, (Ranger) that's fourteen players NOT including the ones in the brackets that I would deem on the bench at best (maybe LuaLua starts, unlikely though). Unless there are more injuries he's not letting on about?
