What needs to happen for this club to change?

Recommended Posts

I think we need to be relegated to allow  this ship to turn around, as it's the only way I can see poss a new owner turning up and seeing the potential upside with the present regime whether it be Wise Jk et al departing along with some of the crap we call players.

For fucks sake.

Some of the people on this board are fucking clueless. Getting relegated would be one of, nay, THE WORST thing that could happen to us. Everyone seems to have this stupid fucking idea in their head that we'd bounce straight back up. What, like Derby, Watford, Southampton, Ipswich, Norwich, Charlton, Leeds, Sheff Wed and Sheff United all did? We can still clear out the shit players in the summer regardless of what league we are in, it just takes a manager with a bit of fucking sense, and at the moment, we don't have one.

I said this in the match thread last night and I'll say it again: anyone who thinks there are ANY benefits to getting relegated is a fucking basketcase. Think about the fact that less people will buy season tickets, the club will be worth much less, the players who are left will have what bits of confidence they have left shredded again and then vapourised, the expectation level will be for us to get straight back up again, and I personally do not think that would happen, regardless of who we signed in the summer.

All of the above would make this club an even bigger fucking disaster. The Championship is not a fucking part-timers league, it's a very hard League to get out of, and some people don't seem to understand the criteria for getting back to the PL from there: consistency and common sense. Does this club have either of those? No.

Relegation would be like dropping an atom bomb on St James Park. Really. So don't even consider the bloody drop as a 'way out of the crisis'. Because it isn't.

Excellent post.

What puzzles me is why you appear to support the person who has caused all this to be possible.

The majority fans to stop shooting themselves in the foot.

A glimer of hope - exaggeration

An unlucky result - knee jerk

A new approach - not willing to give it a chance

A backwards step - mass fan protests

etc

We the fans are slowly killing anything that is worth clinging on to. Until people comprimise their beliefs and aims, the club will never be allowed to progress. We the fans make NUFC, we can also demolish it!

the question is what can be done to change the club around not your a knacker for thinking outside the box to enable us to change.

If you want to see whats coming we must look in the past. A lot of us have been here before and have the T Shirt whilst a lot of guys/gals may not have, if Ashley doesn't sort himself out along with Wise and the rest then potentially once again we will return to a perilous state.

Below is the situation we were in in the 90's nowt changes flogging players bringing in crap poor management ,share wars you name it as we know we've been there before, the question is will a new Messiah emerge.

For me things at the mo are looking similar and with one guy holding all the cards there is very little we can do,yes we call each other etc etc but what can we actually do?.

below is reproduced from: http://www.toonale.co.uk/nufc.htm

With crowds previously below 10,000, Keegan captivated everyone on Tyneside and United stormed into the top division in a style only bettered by Kevin's own brand of football in the next decade. Alongside Keegan were youngsters Peter Beardsley and Chris Waddle, as well as seasoned campaigners like Terry McDermott and David McCreery.

Paul Gascoigne soon followed, as did Jack Charlton as manager. Newcastle consolidated their place in Division One but then a period of selling their best players - Beardsley, Waddle and Gazza - rocked the club, as did a share-war for control of Newcastle United.

The Magpies tumbled back into the Second Division and were in a perilous state. They had little money, star players headed south and crowds dwindled. With the club hovering on the brink, Newcastle United needed a saviour. They not only found one, but two, as Sir John Hall and Kevin Keegan joined forces to create a formidable duo.

When Keegan returned to Tyneside to replace Ossie Ardiles (under whom crowds had again plummeted to below 15,000) as manager on a short term contract in 1992, United were struggling at the wrong end of Division Two. Sir John had all but taken control of the club and he needed a small miracle to stop the Magpies from tumbling into the Third Division for the very first time in their history.

New owner/s

New board

New manager

New team

Or a miracle

Would an Abramovich count as a miracle? The dominoes would have to fall in reverse order.

The club probably needs someone from the North East. Don't think a billionaire Russian, Thai, Arab, American is going to do it.

Some previously unnoticed Newcastle supporting billionaire?

Whilst the club would probably benefit from a new owner coming in & wiping the slate clean the idea of a Geordie Abramovich is fanciful.  The club has been up for sale since September but he hasn't appeared yet, prior to that the Hall family were apparently willing to sell their share for about 3 years before Ashley bought them out and yet the Geordie Abramovich didn't appear then.

What about a consortium of local businessmen/women?  We'd need to find a group of people locally willing to invest a minimum of £250m.  That's going to be a decent sized group of people & you'd then be left with all the other issues; once the club has been bought who is going to dip into their pockets again to buy some more players? who is going to be responsible for the day-to-day running of the club? what happens if one or more of the investors suddenly decide they want their money back?

Foreign investors? Arab billionaires, etc.? They'll have no greater feeling for the club or city than Ashley and there's no guarantee that they'll want a Man City style plaything instead of trying to make some money from us.

New ownership would be nice, but it's completely unrealistic at this moment.

I really owen and i think hes a marvellous football player but he needs to be off the books. We cant build a team around him it just costs too much money.

Say what?

The lad is great dont get me wrong. but with the amount of wages and xfer fee we have spent on him i feel we have to play him every single game. he is not a striker that helps our team he just finishes the job.

A right back and a left back. Simple as.

I've haven't checked the stats, but the games (or halves) I recall seeing where we have been dreadful have been where we have not had two proper full backs playing in the correct positions. Stoke second half being an example, or any game where Charlie N'Zogbia has played at left back.

You cannot overestimate the importance of these positions. Without full backs with proper abilities and positioning sense it throws the whole defensive unit out. It also affects the left and right midfielder as they're not sure what they should be doing. This then focuses play down the middle, or leaves the long ball to the front man. Some teams can get away with this - but where we have (a) a slow uncreative central midfield duo, and (b) no big holding man up front, this is completely pointless.

Get some decent full back/cover then watch us rise up the league. After that, someone in CM. Why haven't we gone for Jimmy Bullard- class creative player with great attitutude, puts in good performances with the non-glamorous clubs.

Owen to go, Shearer obsession to end, decent foreign manager, new way of thinking.

So people are still blaming all of this shit on Shearer?

Jesus christ, nobody even mentions him anymore. Man United still sing songs about Roy Keane. Is it killing their club?

Get a grip!

Are Roy Keane or Cantona or Solksjaer ever mentioned in line with the man united job when fergie hints at retirement? Are they fuck.

Shearer is, and its fucking embarrasing. Until he has a little stint here, and fails, we can never truely be rid of it.

So we've got Kinnear because people are worried that fans want Shearer? Absolute rubbish.

Shearer was a player for us, and great one. AMEN, let's put him to bed. Small time mentality.

Well the main problem we're facing is nobody wants to manage the club. You've hinted that it's because of the shadow of Shearer (if that's not what you mean, what the hell do you mean?)

No, i haven't. Never mentioned it infact. Not from the other managers angle either. He's not THAT influential anymore. However, it's embarassing that when the position for manager has come up, you get the feeling they seriously want him, Keegan practically begged him to come at some level.

It's pathetic, he's an ex-player, let's leave it at that. TO move on, we need to get rid of that mentality, imo.

The current set up is about as far removed from that mentality as you can get. Owned by a Spurs supporting Brummie, chaired by a Transylvanian casino owner who wears shades when it‘s dark, directed by a cockney hoodlum, and managed by an ex spurs player from Ireland who once managed Nepal.

At least Shearer would behave with dignity, treat the club and it’s supporters with some respect.

You think there wouldn't be mongs asking for Keane at Man Utd if Ferguson were to retire?

You can't just "erase" the influence of a legend ffs. It happens at any club.

Shearer's "shadow" is just another one of a long line of excuses that have been used at this club for far too long.
