Skirge
Newcastle midfielder Kevin Nolan has apologised to Victor Anichebe after his two-footed lunge on the Everton striker that saw him sent off in Sunday's 0-0 draw at St James' Park. (Various) Anichebe was saved a serious injury by his £12 shin pads. (Daily Mail)

relámpago blanco
You bloody idiot Nolan, I'm not bothered about the impact of the sending off in the last game but I'm now seriously scared we have to go away to a decent looking Bolton with a midfield unit of Butt and Smith or Butt and Geremi. I think a midfield trio of Barton, Guthrie and Nolan would be disciplined (tactically) enough to allow us to play a 4-5-1/4-3-3 formation.

I haven't heard anything about Gutrie, I think our best cm is him and Barton, can't wait to see them play together on a regular basis, we might actually not have the worst midfield in the league if we do. Dokko
Great how some people write off a player after two and a half games for us. Nice one! Great how some people think a player is suddenly going to get a lot better (beacuse he really needs to to be classed a half decent signing) when he's been wank in the same league for several seasons. Average at best, it's got 'panic buy' written all over it. Having Guthrie & Barton, we really didn't need Nolan. Probably the most boring central midfield in the world, especially when you throw Geremi & Butt in there.

gazza ladra
Not a bad purchase. Decent player that was within our budget and filled a need. Not knocking him in any way. I'd much rather have Barton or Guthrie... that's all. And who knows? I grew to adore Sibierski. You know?
Guest optimistic nit
possibly already answered but is it a one or three game ban ? should definately be a 3. its 3 for a straight red, and i cant see it being reduced for that tackle.

Nobody
Just seen replays of the tackle for the first time, absolutely horrible. What was he thinking? No excuse for that. Saying that though, I still think he'll be a good player for us, and I don't think he's the kind of player that would deliberately hurt another player, he's no Cattermole. What I think he was trying to do is get between the ball and Anichebe, and turn his back so Anichebe would run into his arse. He saw Anichebe loose control and tried to get between him and the ball. Now Anichebe just managed to stretch his leg, get the ball and be hit by Nolan... It wasn't the smartest thing to do and deserved red for sure but it was just unlucky in the end that Anichebe managed to stretch his leg under Nolan's tackle. themanupstairs
If it's anything less than 3 then I give up on referees. It was a howler of a tackle, and a red card was definitely the only decision the ref could make. But saying that, there was clearly no intention to hurt Anichebe. Why should that tackle get a 3 game ban, whereas twats like Cattermole (consistent injuring of other players) and Rooney (consistent misconduct) continue to get away with their own shit? Shak
But saying that, there was clearly no intention to hurt Anichebe. Why, because he's said so? One of the worst tackles I've ever seen to be quite honest, Anichebe could easily have gotten an Eduardo-esque injury from it and considering he got him with both feet I'm surprised he didn't. Rotten, cowardly challenge. He's left the ground with both feet and drove them together in a stomping motion, it just doesn't get more dangerous than that. I'm sure he was trying to get the ball and all that but that doesn't excuse it, it was a horrific lunge and he should really get a lot more than the 3 game ban for it. Obviously it benefits us if he doesn't get a longer ban, he's a decent player who gives us a goal threat from midfield afterall. But if he does I'll have no complaints, because he'll deserve it and more tbh.

FWIW I don't think it was cowardly, just slow and clumsy, the sort of tackle players like Nolan are likely to make once in a while.

Leaving the ground, leading with both feet in a way that pretty much assures that if anyone gets injured in what should be a 50-50 ball it's going to be Anichebe. Say he were to challenge for the ball in a legal way, try and nick it away before Anichebe gets to it. There's a chance that he clips the ball and then Anichebe takes him out getting there a fraction late. It happens, and is the nature of a contact sport like football. Go in liek Nolan did though, and you're going to be grand. Same can't be said for the other guy though. Defines cowardice to me, anyway.
