Can't see us getting another forward when we've already got eight of them on the books. Yes - eight. And that's not even counting Chuck N... Nile Ranger in the reserves. Owen, Martins, Viduka, Shola, Smith, Carroll, Lovenkrands, Xisco. Can't for a minute see us going for another striker. Aye, it wasn't long ago we were debating whether or not we had the best selection of strikers in the Premiership. Since then we've added to them. JH Posted January 30, 2009 Share Posted January 30, 2009 We have Nolan and Taylor (medical aside) tied up already. £6m for Zoggy, £8m+ for Given - if we make good use of this money over the weekend on a decent striker and a quality central midfielder, I'll be alot more positive than I was last week. johnnypd Posted January 30, 2009 Share Posted January 30, 2009 Striker to play with Martins, right-winger to replace any of Milner/Solano/Dyer, replacement for Butt, left-back, centre-half to challenge Colo and Bassong. And a keeper too, if Given leaves. there's other positions we needed filling too, for instance a back-up RB, which would be Taylor, a somewhat attacking midfielder which would be Nolan and a pacy striker to fill in for Martins, which would be Lovenkrands. With a bit of luck though, in a couple weeks' time the only striker on the treatment table will be Owen (Viduka? Who knows? Who cares?). There'll be no excuse from that point on, really. If it means Shola and Martins upfront until the end of the season, that - without doubt - is a good enough frontline to keep us up. If Kinnear can't manage it then it's down to him. I won't be fussed if we don't get a striker this window, tbh. Another centre-mid or a right-winger, please. Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

None of our strikers are capable of that. Well Owen is but he's out injured and badly off form anyway, a player clearly going through the motions. Carroll has been decent but should really only be playing once in a while for development. Xisco clearly hasn't worked out. Viduka should never ever wear the shirt again, he's an embarrassment. Owen might literally disintegrate into a flaky powder the next time he steps on a pitch. Smith is ... Smith. We definitely need another goalscorer from somewhere. I've been hearing some disappointing things (if true) about him on that front and his whole appetite for playing for Newcastle at the minute, basically he too wants away.
