Anderson
Ex-striker Asprilla wants bar on the Tyne HIS love-affair with the Toon Army knows no bounds. And now Tino Asprilla is planning to cement his links with Tyneside by buying a bar in Newcastle. The Colombian has now flown home after spending three weeks in the North East. But during his whistle-stop tour the 41-year-old took time to look at potential sites for a bar and restaurant that could be opened in his name. His representatives in the region will continue the search for premises for “Tino’s” and the former Toon hero is due to fly back here in the coming weeks to hopefully finalise a deal. Tino’s agent Osmiro Colonia Mendez said: “Tino had a great time when he was back in Newcastle. He loves the city and the fans love him. “While he was here it reminded him how much he loved it and he decided he wanted to buy a bar and call it Tino’s. “We looked at premises in the city centre and on the Quayside but haven’t put any offers in yet.” Tino, who starred for the Magpies as part of Kevin Keegan’s “Entertainers” team in the mid 1990s, returned to the region for a sporting charity dinner. He teamed up with former teammates Les Ferdinand and Peter Beardsley at the Lancastrian Suite, formerly The Federation Brewery, in Gateshead. The South American star, who now runs his own football club called Club Athletico in his Colombia, was then guest of honour at St James’ Park. Mr Colonia, and old friend of Tino’s who now lives in Stanley, County Durham, is hoping Tino’s bar can emulate Shearer’s bar, named after the legendary former Newcastle number nine. The 42-year-old said: “When Tino went out in Newcastle the reaction he got was amazing. “The fans adore him and he said he missed the town and wants to have roots here. “Having a bar with his name above it would be a dream come true for him. It would be like Shearer’s Bar and the fans would flock there because Tino is so popular. “Hopefully we can get somewhere and fans will soon be drinking at Tino’s.” http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/north-east-news/evening-chronicle-news/2011/02/19/ex-striker-asprilla-wants-bar-on-the-tyne-72703-28198527/#ixzz1EYyEXtrP
LooneyToonArmy
Former Newcastle striker ‘Tino’ Asprilla offered week’s work as porn actor An adult film company have penned an open letter to former Newcastle United favourite Faustino Asprilla, hoping to get the Colombian legend in front of the camera with his kit off for a whole different type of scoring. The 43-year-old, who played at two World Cups for his country and cost the Toon Army £7million when he joined in 1996, is well known in his homeland for a rather wild lifestyle, which includes a 2008 arrest for allegedly firing a machine gun at security forces. Additionally he also did a naked magazine shoot back in 1993 during his days in Italy with Parma and later attempted to woo a pornstar while he was married. And now the film company, Media Santa Latina - led by Colombian filmmakers Christian Garcia and Andrea Cipriani - are looking to entice Asprilla into the spotlight, offering 20 million Colombian pesos (around £7,000) for one week's work and to give his nickname, "The Octopus", a brand-spanking new meaning. The letter read as follows, according to news provider El Heraldo: "Dear Faustino Asprilla "For years [we] have followed your successful career, which has made you a national icon invaluable in Colombia. "We are convinced that the lifestyle you lead and the media controversy it causes is vital so we dared to make the following proposal. "As you know, SantaLatina.com is an adult entertainment site...And that's why we offer you 20 million pesos for a week as a porn actor. "This is a unique offering, which awaits your prompt response. We are convinced that with a little training you could exploit another talent all of Colombia knows you have."

sempuki
We paid £7.5m for him 20 years ago. I wonder if we will spend that much on a forward in the summer. Doubt it.

Guest Howaythetoon
Tino was arguably the most skilful player I've seen for us, perhaps a modern day Len Shackelton. It was a risky signing because it did upset the balance, but it was KK and NUFC back then all over, all about the talent, ability and taking a risk and daring to be daring basically. Considering what some complete nothing players go for now, that treble at home to Barca was worth the 7.5m alone. The are some legendary stories about him, some of which come from KK who says had it been any other player he'd have been out of the door in a shot, but Tino was Tino, universally loved by fans, players, coaches and manager alike to the point where he could literally do as he liked. I love the fact that a 90s Columbian footballer regards his brief spell on Tyneisde as the highlight of his career and is considered a hero or icon here. It's NUFC all over. Love him or not, Tino entertained and in the annals of our history stands out massively as a positive aspect.
