I'd rather give Shola another season as main striker than giving Xisco yet another chance.

Yet another? He's made 9 appearances ffs, about half of which were starts.

Give him another chance because he might actually be good? Try telling that to all the managers we've had since he arrived who haven't rated him. Deportivo just got relegated and he wasn't even first choice with them. Teams in Spain aren't even interested in him (unless it's for free) although the huge wages he's on won't help.

Need to bite the bullet and get him out of the club. Clearly got no future here and is taking the piss. Move him on to whoever is daft enough to take him.

How do you arrive at that conclusion?

It`s a shame the Xisco loan deal to Deportivo already went through last Jan.....just as Carroll`s late transfer came around.

With our lack of forward cover at the back end of last season it would have been an ideal time to see if Xisco really was upto but it`s all ifs and buts......

Still not sure about him but he has definitely not been given a fair chance (whether it`s down the X number of games  = extra payment to Depor rumour I don`t know). He`s done  fine in the very few games he`s actually played though.

Shush, he hasn't had a chance, all the managers who he has played under just don't like Spanish people and he has a clause in his contract which means we have to pay millions out if he plays him again. That's why he was only given his 9th game when we desperately needed a goal against Villa.

It's a fact that Chris Hughton, Alan Shearer, Alan Pardew don't like Spanish people? You know for a fact about clauses in Xisco's contract do you? And you tell me to shush?

Xisco has been available to loan or buy more or less for every season since his first season with NUFC. Why doesn't a Spanish side want him then? Racing Santander loaned him for a season but didn't try to buy him. Newly relegated Deportivo supposedly want him (although they didn't think he was good enough to start much when they loaned him for the top flight). Xisco is 2nd division class in Spain but people think we should play him in the Premiership? Xisco's record is mainly in the lower leagues.

If it was a Championship striker NUFC had bought with a similar record to Xisco's nobody on here would be wanting to give him yet another chance.

I thought the Villa comment would have given it away, were we 4 or 5-0 up when he came on?

As soon as I read you telling me to "Shush" I was on skim read mode so I could rush to get my reply in!

The stats about Xisco in my reply still stands though for anyone who genuinely thinks we should give him another go.

How do you arrive at that conclusion?

He does nothing to earn his money. He does nothing to suggest he's prepared to sacrifice his massive wage to actually further his career. The fact he's on about £50k a week isn't his fault but he appears to be milking the cub for every penny he can whilst foregoing his career. What about asking for a transfer? Making money appears to be far more important than playing football for him.

Thought it was common knowledge. That's the figure that's been bandied about or the last few years.

My point wouldn't change if it was only £30k a week tbh.

What's he supposed to do?  No-one seems to want to buy him and he can't exactly just resign and head off down the job centre.  We've had some wasters and piss takers at the club in the last few years but I wouldn't bracket him with them.

From what I understand, being settled and being happy is the most important thing to him now.

At 22, he came here because of the ludicrous wage being thrown at him by Wise/Jiminez but ended up being painted as the "signing that broke the camel's back" - which was not his own doing.

He's then been "managed" by Kinnear, Hughton, Shearer, Hughton again - who either doesn't rate him or doesn't like him as he sent him packing to Spain for a year while we were in the Championship*, then kept him out of the team during the first half of last season before arranging a loan back to Deportivo (this was supposedly delayed until the end of the transfer window "just in case Caroll was sold and we couldn't find a replacement" :mackems:)

From what I understand, he genuinely likes the city and the fans (the weather, not so much) - he's hardly had a run of games to 'prove himself' - even in the cup matches (Accrington, Stevenage, etc.) he didn't even get a place on the bench.

When he did get a few games for Deportivo, the match reports I read seemed to be getting more and more positive, they then found themselves in deep relegation trouble and the manager drops to one senior striker in a 4-5-1 formation and Xisco had to make do with 15-20mins off the bench for the last few games, almost scoring with his first touch in the Nou Camp (so it looks as though he was making the right run, he just hadn't got the composure to take the chance or hadn't found his 'game-feet' yet).

When we're still paying the likes of Lovenkrands a wage and we don't have anyone knocking down our door to take Xisco off our hands (discounted or not), why don't we integrate him back into the club, make him feel like he's part of the squad and see how it pans out for the first half of the season. We cannot expect to get rid of Best and rely on Lovenkrands/Ameobi for consistent back up.

*FWIW, I think a season in the Championship could have done wonders for his Newcastle career, in the same way Colo and Enrique were able to adjust.
