He's been finished a long time ago, at the start of last season i said he's done and we need to sell him and i can't believe he's still starting every game for us, he's not a bad player, clearly has the abillty to tackle at least but he's past it physically, he's slow, dosn't seem to move as much  or really help the defence, and in our current situation the last thing we need is a player like him on the pitch.

He's playing with a hopeless bunch of shit and takes more than his fair share of the blame for others' incompetence.

Never hides from and never shirks his responsibilities.

He's still too slow across the pitch to compete at the top level though.

legs went a couple of years ago. always expected to be a playmaker at nufc which isn't his game. he's also a scapegoat and those that say things like "disgrace" are taking out their arses.

One of the few ball winners we have, not as mobile as he once was and cannot be the creative outlet in midfield we need.

He is not and never really has been an attacking midfielder.

Does not hide though and takes responsibility, when a few of our players do hide.

Big point. He's our engine room, he's the one that is meant to drive the team forward and that's never been his game. Butt is a shit player now but he has too much responsibility at this club.

Signing Kevin Nolan was one of the worst decisions in recent seasons.

The position he's played all his career demands a good engine, he could cut it with the best when he had 'legs'.

His mind is willing, but the body isn't able anymore. Shame really, comes across as a good lad.

Fergie knew when its time to move someone on, and he got this one right (as he usually does).

His mind isn't willing. Jesus fucking christ. What games are you people watching?

Tugays mind is willing. Makelele's mind is willing. Scholes' mind is willing.

These players are prime examples of players with no legs who still do a job. How anyone can think Butts mind is willing when he consistently gives the ball away, consistently gives away stupid free kicks and fouls and conistently picks up crap defensive postions.

I think the positions he picks up are his biggest weakness which is where his so called experience should come in. The Liverpool game is the biggest example of this. He was constantly caught ahead of the ball leaving Gerrard the freedom of the park. This is a consistent theme and a good defensive midfielder would fill this gap.

Nicky Butt is woeful at everything. This should be the end of the debate.

Someone will come back with he tries and he has experience though. Thank fuck for that.

even at man utd at his peak he wasn't the engine room. it was left to scholes or keane to be more box to box-like. the last couple of season he may just have cut it at the top flight if we didn;t have the movement of subbuteo players.

I dread every moment he get the ball at his feet.  Those cross field fifty yard 'Hollywood' passes that either end up going out for a goal kick or cut out and put back into the postion his legs can no longer get him back into putting us under pressure.

His legs were gone well before he came here though - Ferguson never lets a player leave to join a team in the same league if they're not finished.

The last thing Butt needed at this stage of his career was another slow cart horse alongside him. Must admit I was disappointed with Barton on the few occasions he played this season in that he quite often ended up playing deeper than Butt. No one has stepped up to be our Gerrard/Lampard all season. No one has even tried to be a poor man's version.

quite a few times this season and last i've saw butt looking round  and having to go forward because, as you've pointed out, no-one else would. reads the game well, wins most the challenges he goes in for and would like to give the ball 10yds to someone who's moved into a good position, unfortunatly he has to try and play 40yard eye of the needle passes.

Did he constantly give away needless freekicks and shite passes for Man Utd / England?

He is 'trying' to make tackles but because his pace (not that he had much anyway) has gone he's like Smith in more than not being late, or having to try a slider as he can't make up the ground anymore.

His long range passing has always been suspect, however at Man Utd that wasn't his job, he'd just win the ball and give it to anyone else in midfield who could make the pass. We don't have anyone who is capable of passing short let alone long so he probably thinks 'fuck it, why not'.

If butt had an outlet, a creative partner, he wouldn't have to try to ping it 50 yards. He has however, been past it since we got him.

the first couple of months he was here, before the crowd got at him, he'd do his job, win the ball, look around for a pass and.............everyone in the same strip stood, practically hands on hips, waiting for him to do something........not much has changed except he older.

Was a very good player once, but hasn't been able to hack the pace for a few seasons now. Never really thought I'd forgive him for his disgraceful first season here either.

The story for so many of our players....
