Is it true Paul Marflitt is taking over?

Apparently its nearly sorted and the Shearer contract is done.

Don't want to get my hopes up but would be great if true.

Gary the sheep to be the new Chairman. He's not keen on Shearer though from what I hear.

23 days until the new season begins

f*** me, we're gonna struggle so much this season

Its already too late to think about getting a load of players in now and too late to effectively put together a solid, reliable team

I give up

Lets not forget that we have until 1st Sept to bring in new players so 23 days isn't strictly true.  We will have at least three weeks after the season starts to bring in new faces so lets not all start slitting our wrists eh!

We can ill afford a shit start to the season.

Fears that Newcastle will not be sold in time for the start of the Championship season were intensifying today as the takeover saga continued at a lethargic pace.

Mike Ashley’s PR man, Jonathon Brill, claimed the sale was a work in progress.

He said: “There are a number of interested parties and there are no deadlines imposed by anybody.”

However, while fans wait anxiously to see if under-pressure Keith Harris and his team at Seymour Pierce can find a buyer before the season begins, there was no positive update from United today.

A United spokesman said: “I’m afraid there is no further news regarding the sale of the club.”

In case people haven't seen it.

No deadlines. What is he talking about?

Probably referring to a 'the Chronicle understands' line yesterday that claimed a consortium had given them a 24hr 'take it or leave it' deadline.

I'd be happy (yes, happy) with a mid-table finish....or just survival even.

It sounds ridiculous, but what wouldn't surprise me is if we go into the season in the same state we're in atm, only for a deal to be done with a couple of weeks before the window shuts. We'll end up hairing around the place at 100mph and get a manager and a group of last minute signings. This will lead us to a decent season and a chance to stabalise for next season and push on...

Wait, that's not sugar...

I'm not too worried at the moment, for the simple reason that I don't rate the level of football in the Championship. With the group of players (not that I rate our players too much) we have now I'd be confident that we would gain promotion at the end of the season if we had a decent manager come in at some point. What would really worry me is if we started to sell a lot of players without a new owner/manager. A situation that can not be too far off with the recent comments from players and the sale still having not gone through.

How about a group of totally alienated and demotivated players in a physical league, lacking any kind of leadership against a backdrop of uncertainty and impending financial implosion.  I'm fucking worried.

This is actually an important point. Personally I think our squad currently is more than capable of winning this division, all it needs is a manager to guide them. It's a small comfort but at least Ashley is not stripping the club of it's playing assets right now. Financially of course we are screwed if we go into the season with this squad of players but that's Ashley's problem for now, the consquences of his delaying of the sale will impact him soon enough in his back pocket and may push him into speeding things up a little.

That's what I'm banking on. I'm pretty sure it is. We may not come up, but we certainly won't go down.

That's why we need a bloody manager in ASAP.

Off-topic but didn't know where to post this.  Teletext is being taken off TV, but I was equally intrigued by the picture they decided to use with the article.

No f***ing suprise the viewership has went down, as for the last few month I haven't been able to get it, and for about 2 year before that it was on and off.

Now they have made a conclusion they are taking it off because of less advertising???

Reads like incompetence. :D
