Yorkie
Will do you lots of good if your media don't go mental overhyping the team, for a change. Remember the first time we won anything (2008) our press wasn't giving us the time of the day before the tournament. Don't think it will make a great deal of difference in any case, it would be a miracle if we got past the Quarters. Overhyping or not. What's that based on? The team > individuals argument has never been more relevant than it is now.

Getting to the quarters would be success for me and then build for the future and hope to do better in 2016, 2018 and beyond.
Ste
Spain scraped a win against Belarus at the beginning of the qualification process, Italy drew with Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Denmark, all away.. what does this say about them? The two finalists of the last European tournament struggle away from home. We do okay away from home.
Pata
Hodgson always gives you a chance to win with his defensive setup. His teams are always hard to break (at least in an international stage). If your attacking players are on form and can score those crucial goals at playoffs, you have every chance to go far in Brazil.
Guest firetotheworks
Is it just me or is Gabriel Clarke starting to say 'England expects' to people as if he thinks he's saying something like 'Live long and prosper' or 'Praise Christ'?
AyeDubbleYoo
I'm looking forward to the WC regardless of what England do really. Go there, play a bit positive, get out the group. Then just enjoy it... who knows, we might beat someone decent.
Ste
We'll do pretty well in Brazil. I think failure to qualify for Euro 2008 and Capello's reign helped to lower expectations across the board. During Sven's tenure, most expected us to go far or believed we could. Under Hodgson, we recognise where we're at. Spain are unplayable at times, Brazil have the potential to beat anyone and Italy are a well drilled unit. We know our place now. We might be capable of a surprise because of this. What sticks in my mind is the headline by the Sun when the draw for the World Cup 2010 was announced. It was just daft. We are reasonably well organised now, and we carry a threat going forward. Hodgson has a bit more time on his hands now before Brazil, and the newer members to the squad will have more time to embed themselves in the set-up also. I think quarters would be an acceptable target, although this depends on the draw of course.
Yorkie
I hope we get Russia at some point. I know that many of Capello's squad won't be around, but you'd expect the players to be absolutely pumped and it would be brilliant to stick one on him. I reckon it would be a great occasion. Same really, i'm just looking forward to the festival of football that it will be and hoping we go as far as possible even though i don't expect nothing but the norm. The one thing i will say is i think going forward we are a lot more exciting to watch now, which is what its all about really for me sure i want to see my country win games but i don't want to be bored to tears either..... Watching Townsend, Rooney and Sturridge last night when they went forward really excited me and hopefully its a sign of things to come.

Trumpet
I think anything past the first knock out round and Roy would be a success. It'll be interesting if he reverts back to cautious containing football like the game vs. Italy at the Euros when England face a decent opposition there. As for possible groups. England's group could vary from: Germany, Chile, England, US/Japan to Switzerland, Burkina Faso, England, New Zealand so I guess we can't decide on specific expectations until the draw is made on Dec 6th. Village Idiot
Honestly, I fucking love me a World Cup and will watch as many games as humanly possible, but for the most part the football in itself is pretty crap. Sides are usually *very* conservative given the competition format (concede a goal and you could be already out), and international sides aren't as fluid as club sides due to the lack of playing time throughout the season. AyeDubbleYoo
Not sure how I would feel about a 'group of death' scenario, might be alright. More games against good teams at least.

Who knows, it'll all be class though because it's World fucking Cup. --- Be good if some of the ridiculous teams draw each other: Holland, Chile, Bosnia, Ghana and the likes. All out attack regardless of who/what the prize is.
