QBG
Ok, so say we do not get taken over (god forbid) or it happens too late, no one is bought and no one is sold. Although it would be absolute financial hell, would the current squad of players win the league? Or would they struggle terribly? The squad at the minute: 2 DF Fabricio Coloccini 3 DF José Enrique 4 MF Kevin Nolan 7 MF Joey Barton 8 MF Danny Guthrie 9 FW Obafemi Martins 11 MF Damien Duff 12 DF Sébastien Bassong 13 GK Steve Harper 16 DF Ryan Taylor 17 FW Alan Smith 18 MF Jonás Gutiérrez 19 FW Xisco 20 MF Geremi 21 DF Habib Beye 22 MF Nicky Butt 23 FW Shola Ameobi 27 DF Steven Taylor 28 DF Tamás Kádár 29 FW Fabio Zamblera 31 FW Frank Wiafe Danquah 32 FW Wesley Ngo Baheng 33 GK Ole Söderberg 34 GK Fraser Forster 35 DF Ben Tozer 37 DF Callum Morris 38 MF Kazenga LuaLua 39 FW Andy Carroll 40 GK Tim Krul 42 FW Ryan Donaldson 43 MF Jonny Godsmark 45 DF Darren Lough 46 FW Nile Ranger 47 MF Bradden Inman
dcmk
Nope, midfield is atrocious.
Cajun
Would be in with a shout I reckon, midfield may be shit but so will a lot of Championship midfields and our defence would be by far the best in that league.
Dave
I believe it would with proper management, yes.
Cajun
Duff, Jonas, Guthrie and Barton (in a magical world where they all stay fit, available and not in prison) would be a quality midfield in that league. I reckon even Nolan and Butt would be fairly good down there.
Guest habibbeye
Mid-table.
madras
yes it would.. but then again.........it was also good enough to survive in the prem.

Guest itsTosh
If you look at it on the basis of skill, experience, general ability - really, these are international level players - no question. But, as has been said, these are the players who got the club relegated. Heartless, gutless, legless, loadsamoneys. And they are coming up against the kind of players who were rejected by the "big" clubs. We might be better off with the kids.
Guest westamfan
The subs bench will be more costly in wages than the entire championships first team squad... and I still don't think you could win the league. Well, with Shearer as manager anyway.
Robster
I believe it would with proper management, yes. Is exactly correct. You could put the Barcelona squad up there but with the NUFC set up and management, they would not perform.

Alberto2005
A good team depends on so many different aspects, you saw us under Keegan with the same players playing as what you would call a "good team" but then the same players under different managers playing very poorly and looking like a terrible team. It depends on the player quality, management, confidence and other small details but I think with the players we have currently we should be capable of winning the Championship. Guest Phil K
Too many there who are not the kind we need. We need a good midfield (absent) never say die/run through brick walls types (the ones we have are never say start/why bother running ? We still get paid ludicrous amounts types) The strikers SHOULD do well, but with a dismal midfield..... Defenders ? Well, we'll see how many remain if and when we ever get f*******g started in this season.
Karjala
top 6, but midfield would prevent us moving any higher.
Filflop1
They are more than capable but we are a rudderless ship at the moment and until that is sorted the players will just go through the motions i think
dcmk
They are as good as their last game, unmotivated, no legs, no idea's, etc etc.

thewellander
No. But I think they could, maybe, fight for a playoff spot.

dinotheprehistoricgeordie
It really really really really depends upon whos managing them.
Guest
With a better manager last season I'm convinced that squad would have at the VERY least finished on a par with the likes of Stoke & Bolton, so same applies, a better manager and we should be looking at the title even with the same players.
