I am truly saddend  by the news but (and I am going to be shot down here) but I recall not being teh only person who was happy when fat fred let him go after a bad season start.

I think bobby deserves all the praise he is getting and he is a big loss, a fine and decent man, but lets not rewrite history thru rose tinted lenses

Really want to come up and pay my respects. Going to try and do it sometime tomorrow but it's not looking likely. If I can't make it, I'll definitely head up on the day of his funeral, whenever that is.

In a city that never fails to take the chance to take the piss out of me for any derogatory Newcastle events,I have been touched, and a tad surprised,if I'm being honest,by the amount of Coventry folk, who've made the effort to shake my hand, and recite a Sir Bobby moment to me...it's all good.

had a peak at the SMB messageboard, expecting the worse - but fair play they were very respectful with a lot of them pretty gutted

Top level football is screaming out for a personality like Bobby again. There are just too many boring, wooden Managers out there. Not quite sure where the next one is going to come from though.

A rare breed

Held it together most of the day but been watching bits on Youtube and am not ashamed for a moment to say that tears have been flowing freely. Also SSN has had a similar effect with its montages.

Before today I couldn't ever imagine in a million years going somewhere to lay flowers for a bloke I've never met, it seems so preposterous. I consider myself a sensible, intelligent bloke. But despite this the Mrs and I are off to St James' Park tomorrow for just that reason. I just feel I have to be there. Might take a shirt along with me too, I'll see what I've got.

Legend is an overused word, but for Sir Bobby it's not nearly enough. We haven't just lost a great manager, we've lost a great man. Rest in peace, you've earned.

outside of football, but one of the most important things he's ever done is raise over a million quid for cancer research while terminally ill. what a hero.

That picture had me in tears, I think it's the symbolism of him walking away alone on a football pitch that really got me, it just looks so peaceful :weep:

RIP Sir  Our own plight is directly assosite with him we never recover from his unjust sacking. I hate FFS and I will never forgive him to sack our gurdian and the best football person whom to assosiate with Newcastle.

I don't think it's surprising that one of the few managers to emerge in the last decade with any personality, style and success was Mourinho.  A man that owes everything in his career to Sir Bobby.

By the way,Taggart became Sir Alex today,in my eyes, with his genuine heartfelt tribute to our "Sir".

Well said. I've got a lot of respect for Alex anyway, but his comments about SBR are absolutely spot on.

The bloke was a legend and deserves all the praise that will ever come his way such a nice guy to !!! Remember him craking on to me and the missus at St James the type of person you could sit and listen too for hours.

RIP

"There is a law in football that you should put off your mobile phone in the dressing room, but his phone was ringing. He answered the call and told the players to be quiet. Then he ended the call by saying: ‘Thank you for calling me, Mr Pope!"

Absolutely devastated, cant say anymore than that. "Legend" is such a cliched over used word in football and in general but i can honestly say i cant think of too many people to whom the word would be more apt than it would be to Sir Bobby Robson.

Have genuine affection for the man,  was a giant amongst men and an incredibely brave person.
