Keefaz
At the end of the day I'd rather have Owen on the bench ready to come on if we're one nil down than someone like Bent or Crouch. They might be more rounded strikers but I just don't fancy them to score against a good defence. Owen would be my wildcard. Fuck Owen. I'd rather take Shola. ElDiablo
Bent? He won't be anywhere near. He will if he has a good season and he's started well.

Yorkie
I'd still take Beckham. He can still provide moments of absolute quality. The issue is that he doesn't have the pace anymore; but if at any point we resort to playing someone like Crouch due to the inevitable injury to strikers (we can't seem to escape that at the major tournaments nowadays), putting Beckham deep will provide an invaluable outlet to attack with. I have more faith in Beckham for the national team than i do someone like AYoung, Walcott, Downing or Jimmy Milner (though i do reckon Walcott's in with a shout). There's also few players in the world better at taking a set piece, i'd imagine. 23-Man Squad is it? Gkp: James, Green, Foster Def: Johnson, Terry, Ferdinand, Upson, Lescott, Brown, ACole Mid: Lennon, Beckham, Lampard, Gerrard, Carrick, Hargreaves*, JCole, AYoung** Str: Rooney, Heskey, Defoe, Crouch, Walcott *If fit... if not, take Barry. But i'd far rather have an out-and-out defensive midfielder in there. I suppose Hargreaves is a bit of an unknown quantity now given his epic injury troubles, but there's no doubting we've seen him perform absolutely superbly in that role before. As the commentators correctly illuded to tonight, with both our full-backs having attack as their focal point, we're liable to mess up occassionally at the back and we have done at every major competition. I'm far more comfortable when England have someone sat infront of the back four, in my opinion. (I'm aware that Alan Smith is the obvious choice, but from a bias point of view, i don't want him to go as he's too important to Newcastle). **Maybe SWP. It's also essential to have five strikers in my opinion. I think Walcott's got a good shout because he can offer us something very different. Say we're in the same position we were last time... 0-0, extra-time against a decent - but tired - side. Walcott comes on and can cause so much trouble. Yorkie
I wish Scotland were better tbh. Be class if we were ever to get them in a quarter-final, or something. Be a fantastic occassion.

Cronky
GK - James, Green, Foster FB - Johnson, Richards, Cole, Bridge CB – Terry, Ferdinand, Lescott, Woodgate M – SWP, Lennon, Barry, Lampard, Carrick, Gerrard, J Cole, Young F – Rooney, Crouch, Heskey, Defoe I'd always take SWP. He can be infuriating, but at the same time he has the ability to do the unorthodox and open up the best defences. I don't rate Young that highly, but he can also fill in as another forward. There's scope still for a young talent to steal up on the rails. Gibbs or Wilshere from Arsenal maybe.
