What was that football mockumentary film from the 70s/80s called? All I can remember is one of the player's nickname being shoes, as he once came into training wearing a new pair of shoes.

 

Bostock's Cup. The greatest football programme/film in history! Tim Healy, Ralf Little, the bloke that played Finchy in The Office, Nick Hancock...superb. Had a copy on DVD but lost it. :( Can't understand for the life of me why this was never repeated.

So many quality moments, nicknamed the "Underfelt Men" getting pots of carpet glue as win bonuses "in order to avoid tacks", the twin brothers at centre-back Ronnie & Reggie Kay, George Best, not THE George Best of course, but a different one...if anyone's not seen this you must!

Had no idea. No formal affiliation with the club I take it?

 

I knew that the Women's team existed but reading through their history, yeah looks like they have no official affiliation with the club. Though I imagine that the club does offer some donations/sponsorships from time to time? :dontknow:

Luton Town's Alex Lawless breaks hand in wall punch

 

Lawless joined Luton from York, initially on loan, in November 2010 Luton Town midfielder Alex Lawless has broken his hand by punching a wall at half-time in Saturday's loss to York.

 

With the Hatters 3-0 down, the Welshman, 28, did not re-emerge for the second half against his former club.

 

He will be out for about a month and has been disciplined by the club, with the punishment undisclosed.

 

"He does care and it was against his former club, I can understand the frustration," boss Gary Brabin told BBC Three Counties Radio.

 

"But his act has now cost us for the next month or so.

 

"I've spoken to Alex at length, he's absolutely gutted. He understands [the punishment] but we'll be keeping that in-house, he realises he's let us down and he'll be dealt with accordingly."

 

Lawless was already suspended for the visit of Cambridge United on Tuesday.

AWANA DIAB, the footballer who became an internet sensation with a backheeled penalty, has been killed in a car crash.

 

The United Arab Emirates midfielder, 21, shot to fame in July thanks to a cheeky spot-kick in his country's 7-2 win over Lebanon.

 

Considered a promising talent, Awana was tragically involved in an accident when travelling back from training yesterday.

The 29-year-old woman who recently became football's youngest CEO is reportedly engaged to the man who gave her the job.

Carolyn Still's appointment as CEO of Mansfield Town earlier this month quickly became a national story, but the tabloids soon turned on the politics graduate with the Sun even claiming that she used to work as an escort.

 

Now, the Daily Record has tarnished her credibility yet further by reporting that she is engaged to be married to Mansfield chairman John Radford, 45, who was the man who gave her the position.

 

The paper says that "John, 45, popped the question last week and the happy couple told friends and family at the weekend."

 

Only this weekend Radford was been forced to come out and defend the appointment of Still, saying he employed her on purely football grounds after the club was rocked by the publicity the papers gave the story.

 

"I sat down and talked with her and she said there was no truth in them (the escort rumours) and that's it," he told the Mansfield and Ashfield Chad.

 

"It is now a legal issue at the moment and has to be dealt with.

 

"When you appoint someone like Carolyn Still you are going to get a bit of press as she doesn't look like your normal CEO at a football club.

 

"But she is very good at her job. She has held very high positions at multi-million pound companies and she will be very effective for Mansfield Town Football Club.

 

"Obviously she was hurt by the stories but Carolyn has picked herself up and is getting on with the job."

 

After she took the job Still said: "This has been a genuine appointment. I have worked hard to get where I am."

my own fault for listening in the 1st place but just turned on the legends to hear malcolm macdonald say he'd never heard of mark hottiger and had never seen him play - was manager of fulham in the 80s so never watched NUFC then, therefore wouldnt have been able to see him play.

 

None of the 'legends' recalled the free kick "Hottinger" scored (v Blackburn in 1994 (I think)) and the caller and the legends then wondered whether the Swiss Hottiger was Dutch or Swedish.

 

How are they still on the radio.

Also they mentioned this Entertainers game, I thought the idea was to recreate the 4-3 game? Fair few weren't even at either club when the game happened....

Bernie is the only one that is vaguely clued up on current footballing things.  Malcolm knows fuck all and Micky is even worse.  He even once admitted he didn't see a sunderland home game as he was at the MetroCentre.

 

And yup, this recreation of the 4-3 game is just a mix of past players from either club, regardless of whether or not they actually played in the game.

AIK and Djurgarden fans stayed silent for the first 10 minutes of the Stockholm derby on Monday in protest against what they see as heavy-handed tactics by the Swedish FA and sensationalist reporting of crowd trouble.

 

Such was the hush in the Rasunda stadium that conversations between the soccer players were clearly audible.

 

It was almost as if the match was being played behind closed doors, but the ground was far from empty with 24,639 supporters inside.

 

Set up by 34 supporters' groups representing soccer and hockey clubs from Sweden, the "Positive Terrace Culture" campaign hopes the silent protest will convince the FA and the media that things are not as bad as they seem.

 

It will be an uphill struggle given the match became the latest this season to be held up due to fans' misbehaviour.

 

Matches have also been abandoned with both Djurgarden and AIK among teams affected when supporters threw fireworks onto the field.

 

The derby between Malmo and Helsingborg was halted after Helsingborg goalkeeper Par Hansson was attacked by a fan while a ballboy, a linesman and a cameraman have all been injured by firecrackers during the campaign.

 

Many fans though believe the FA has gone too far in banning fireworks from arenas altogether and fining clubs whose supporters sing demeaning songs about referees.

 

Fan groups have also accused Swedish media of exaggerating the dangers associated with attending soccer matches, saying that Sweden's football stadiums have never been safer.

 

AIK defender Nils-Erik Johansson said the silent protest at the Stockholm derby, won 1-0 by Djurgarden, had an effect on the players.

 

"It wasn't nice," he told Reuters. "We understand that the fans want to make a point and they certainly did that today. It felt like the game only really got going after 10 minutes.

 

"We are in this situation now where a few people make bad decisions and the bigger group gets punished. It's not how it should be. A whole community should not be punished for what one or two guys are doing."

 

Whatever effect the silent protest had on the players or the media, it is likely to fall on deaf ears with the FA as once again a game was disrupted due to fans firing off pyrotechnics.

 

At the start of the second half, both sets of fans ignited Bengal fireworks in a co-ordinated protest, delaying the game for six minutes.

 

Referee Jonas Eriksson followed the FA's fireworks policy to the letter and removed the players from the pitch as the arena was engulfed in a cloud of smoke.

 

When the smoke cleared, the teams returned to the field and Djurgarden hung on to win thanks to a goal from Kennedy Igboananike.
