Hurst implies in his bio that he was heavily involved in the set up of gallowgate flags now wor flags. Do you mind commentating on this - is it true or is he embellishing slightly?

He absolutely was one of the founders of Gallowgate Flags. He was also one of two 'founding' members who didn't like the new direction that was being taken and thus refused us further use of 'their' Gallowgate Flag name/brand.

What he and another brought, undoubtedly assisted in what has now become Wor Flags, but once the True Faith surfer and a few other opinions were aired by so called socialist folk, then it fast transpired that what was the existing direction wasn't the direction the group wished to take.

Interestingly, if this is still used in his bio, it's been 6 years almost since he was involved. Very, very few of the group publicise their involvement via bios etc. Because we don't perceive it to be important. Inevitably, as the groups exposure has grown and is the fuel which we so rely upon, then anonymity has been difficult to maintain, and whilst it might not be forbidden, very few of us list this in our bios. Our intention is to reflect what we believe to be fans' and our own collective opinion, not to represent the fanbase. Semantics?..maybe. There's a slight difference for me though and hopefully we strike the fine line that doesn't make us seem like one of the characters many frown upon within our fanbase.

Anyhoo...I digress...

Feels a bit uncomfortable to have a thread just slagging off two individuals mind

Aye, it's probably not the purpose of the thread TBF. Hard to focus on the subject matter though when these feelings are ignored (even when constructively addressed).

Pretty sure the minutes are supposed to describe questions and answers

“Some questions were raised, they were answered” - truly amazing.

Also they were answered by Greg, which means that he probably just said he will answer after work before starting a non-stop 699-day shift

I’m out but I’ll try and get in to ask questions about:

- how they plan on better representing the views of the fan base

- the election debacle

- conflation of TF and NUST which might is considered by some a conflict of interest

- raising minimum terms for board members and tighter election rules to promote transparency

Yeah, agreed.  I think Martin likes to call himself a social Democrat - like you said, left-leaning.  As was the fanzine - I used to like the political, music and subculture stuff as much as the football stuff.

But then they started accepting adverts - against the traditional fanzine ethos.  From Hurst’s dad’s taxi company.  And instead of a polyglot collective of writers, Hurst used it as a vehicle to promote himself and his tiresome cadre of middle class mates, with their vanilla politics and cultural views.  The whole TF thing is just an irritant to me now

They rightly asked the questions of Ashley, where's the money gone and how much did Sports Direct pay for advertising. But how much do Phoenix Taxis pay to advertise?

They are making a fortune from the Patreon subscribers. Where does all that money go? 885 subscribers at the moment. That's around £7k a month before Patreon take off their fees.

And whilst I'm on a TF rant, like, can someone, like, tell that Kyle they have on, like,  sometimes that he doesn't have to like, say the word like, every sentence, like.

I have to say I've bought the fanzine since issue 1, used to be a subscriber and listen to their free podcasts that I generally enjoy listening to (although i do roll my eyes when i see Charlotte is on again) but some things have always knarked me.

It's incredibly annoying, tbf I only listen to that podcast as a last resort but if he's on it I tend to not bother

Got to be honest, I always thought TF was try-hard as fuck when it came to the non-football stuff. Dreadful dinner party liberalism put to paper by a bloke who went to see 808 State once and thought he was Madchester incarnate. Even as a nascent lefty in the early to mid 00s who threw himself at the feet of anyone vaguely radical I knew it was properly shit. Shame like, because there was evidently a market for a left leaning fanzine that wasn’t a tribute to Red Issue.

I’ve no idea of the politics of Hurst et al but it wouldn’t surprise me if MM has got into bed with the type of people he spent most of the last thirty years performatively attacking.

Keep on keepin’ on.
