But even though we are top of the table, winning games that we haven't played well in something still doesn't seem right. I don't know what it has, but winning these games just doesn't feel right or shall I say felt like it has before.  :undecided:

We're scraping results at the moment, which is good while you're doing it but eventually the wheels will fall off if we don't start changing our tactics.

Part of the reason is that we a scraping to get back to where we were... so it might not feel like much of an achievement as such. Like losing at a casino and playing again just to win it back, if you do that's good and all, but you're only back where you started.

Also the way events overlapped between this season and last it might be that every game is like on ongoing reminder of the club's failure.

Plus all the stuff going behind the scenes of course.

We should all be happy we are winning games and are top of the table, but as you say theres something just not right and thats the thought of if/when we return to the premiership we are going to be down there challanging sunderlands record low points total without a very large investment in players and a real manager (hughton gets us up he will be given a chance theres no doubt about it)

The only reason were winning is because we have a squad thats miles better than any other in the league, even when their playing absloute garbage they still have more abillty than the players playing against them, however a few wins might boost their morale and get them playing good football again.

Its not an issue over being happy about winning and being top, ofcourse am happy about that BUT its more about the fact nothing has changed we are still a huge mess of a club, every transfer window brings panic and frustration. We could be top still by January and then it could all get fkd up by just a couple of our current squad being sold.

Even if we were 10 points clear and thrashing teams 4-0 every week I would still be very worried.

Obviously the tactics need to change. Hughton does change things, as we've seen before. There is some reasoning behind it, i just dont agree with it. Obviously away from home he thinks more defensive is a better idea. I imagine at home we'll stick with 2 upfront. If that pays off our best hope is that he'll want to keep that formation going.

I dont feel like somethings not right though. We're winning games & we're top. Football is never consistant. Aslong as we keep winning until we improve again (which we will if we keep winning) then im happy.

From what I've seen, usually at around xmas a championship team goes on a massive unbeaten run to win the league, winning 4-0, 5-0 game after game (mackems under keane, reading etc) just have to hope its us this year.

We're seriously unconvincing table toppers and you never know if the next game will be a Doncaster or a Sheffield, where we play shit but win, or a Blackpool or a Scunthorpe, where we play shit and lose - and it only takes one of the latter and a few other results to go against us and we're out of the automatic promotion spots and have to haul ourselves back up.

He changed it last night. He put 3 centre forwards on for the last 10mns when we were keeping a 1-0 lead. His reason was to keep Harewood happy as far as I could see and we were annihilated during that time with last ditch defending and good goalkeeping saving us. He also started with Butt when Ranger should have started with Nolan in midfield instead of Butt. This showed me he was placating Butt. There can be no other reason for these baffling decisions other than to keep senior pros onside.

Our luck will not last.

As i say there was reasoning behind it i just didnt agree with it. Harewood was a strange one, but he obviously thought the guys strength/pace/height would help us out both by giving us an outlet & defensively. It makes sense logically. The main problem with that is that Harewood is playing pathetically & shouldnt be given a chance to prove himself when its so tight. The rest made sense, for the defensive set up he was going for.

I think the thing that makes me just go meh, is the fact this team does not have a lot of goals in them and even if a team scores againsat us once theres a chance we could get beat, the previous promotion team used to blitz teams 4,5,6 even 7..thats why i see Cardiff and West Brom being the top 2 as they consistently score goals. We struggle and our defence is not going to stay solid all the time and we are not going to scrape lucky 1-0 wins forever

Because it could all go pear shaped at any time. You could say this about any club who lose a few games on the trot but our situation is so combustible it feels like we're sitting on a time bomb waiting for it to go off, because all we have ever had with Ashley is bad news - it makes you cautious.

- Scraping unconvincing wins. Feels like it won't last.

- Lunatic in charge of the club who seems to openly dislike the fans.

- Anything could happen at any time, almost always bad. Said lunatic "failed to find" a buyer, said he's staying..

- ...and appointed his caretaker as manager until 2011 after his worst run of results.

- January looming. Selling one key player could trigger others to look for the exit. Ashley spent nowt in summer, let 8 or 9 go.

- Stadium may be renamed.

- Top but very tight league table. Couple of defeats could drop us to 8th or lower.

- Injuries at any time could totally f*** up our season. The squad is tiny and being propped up by loan signings and academy kids.

I think January will be critical to how our season pans out. We'll know a lot more about our chances come February 1st. Until then we take nothing for granted, every 3 points are precious but without the performances to match it makes you worried.

I don't buy that every team in this league has a worse squad. Whetehr 'on their day' our squad is fantastic or not, play as consistently badly as we are and were bound to come unstuck. We won last night because of a premiership keeping performance and a freak goal. Doesn'tseem down to superior squad selection or tactics. It's absolutely baffling. I'm feeling exactly the same as the the OP.

Reality is though that we're winning games. Whether its down to fighting them out, or having that one player with a bit of premiership quality like Nolan/Harper in the 91st minute to get the win. We have that little bit extra that most sides in this league dont have & that can make a very big difference. Especially in our ability to get results when we play badly, which is key for any side. You just have to hope that we can improve the performances to & its far far more likely that they will than they wont when the sides winning. So i see no reason to be negative. Theres no reason to believe we wont be up there at the end of the season at this rate.

Player for player we probably have the best 1st team squad in the Championship, but I've yet to be convinced that we have the best team.

We've done poorly against sides like Doncaster and Scunthorpe because whilst their players may not be as good (on paper) they've played far better than us as a unit.  Our players often seem to play like they've never met each other, they have little leadership on the field and there doesn't seem to be much of a plan on how they should be playing together week in, week out.  Hughton has been reminding me more & more of Roeder, where he's had no choices and the team has pretty much picked itself we've done OK but when he's had options he's invariably picked an unbalanced side that has looked clueless as how to string 2 passes together.

We've been riding our luck in a number of games that should have gone against us and it has seemed to me that we've succeeded because of the individual qualities of our players and not because we've been the better team.
