Dr Venkman
Eh? He makes mistakes others don't. He makes mistakes and gets blamed for them while others can make the same mistakes and get away with making them. Is that easier to understand? I haven't seen anyone else make mistakes as stupid as his 'tackle' and dive against brighton and throw in against Arsenal. I take your point in general but i'm not sure how relevant it is. He's certainly not a scapegoat for anything, he just stands out a mile because he's not good enough.
STM
Simpson will end up at Villa for 3.5m, just saying.
Guest bimpy474
For £3.5m i'll come up and give him a saddler to Villa on my sons Tomahawk, it says no giving people saddlers but i dont care, i'm a rebel like that.
Cajun
Ah look, something else that I've found: Gasuso deleted his account yesterday. Anyway he's back under the username "osusag". IP address checks out. http://www.newcastle-online.org/nufcforum/index.php/topic,17130.0.html Nice one. Cajun - fighting racism since 2006

mattypnufc
Honestly can't understand the shit that Simpson gets on here. Alright he's not great, and wouldn't be first choice if we got someone better than him in obviously, but he's decent backup.
nufc4eva
To be honest he has picked up lately and as part of a squad I would keep. He is not good on the ball though. From a work ethic point of view he works as hard as anyone, and has stopped backing off quite as much. I like him tbh as a squad player. Would like some competition out there though, it may help him lift his game
Elliottman
Honestly can't understand the s*** that Simpson gets on here. Alright he's not great, and wouldn't be first choice if we got someone better than him in obviously, but he's decent backup. So you can understand it? It is over the top at times, but I think the majority are happy for him to see the season out as long as he's replaced in the summer.

Skirge
Simpsons main problem is he thinks he is the greatest RB ever, and with no competition for his starting place he thinks he can demand what ever terms he wants on a new contract.

Agreed, which is why I would add competition rather than sell him. He is a very good squad player I think
AlanSkÃrare
Simpson's best games are when we sit back and defend (Stoke away, Swansea away etc.), because he is a decent defender with his backing-off-tendencies decreasing in the past year. He's a decent when it comes to tackling and just being in the way of his winger. However, the number of games when we sit back is getting fewer and will probably get fewer in the coming years if we continue to improve. I think Williamson's big minus is how frightened he is of the ball, but he can get away with it as Coloccini handles most of the passing out of defence. But Simpson and Williamson forming that right hand partnership of our defence, it prevents us from starting a number of attacks. They very rarely play it out of there, and for us to be able to develop our attacking play with the player's we've got going forward, Simpson needs replacing, preferably with Santon. David Icke - Son of God
I hope he signs, just because we're going to need a bit of depth if we get into Europe. He shouldn't be first choice though.

Unbelievable
If he signs a new 5 year deal I can't see it being as a squad player. He'd want assurances from the manager about being considered a first team player before he puts pen to paper surely?

Sifu
So, close to signing a new deal I hear? I honestly wouldn't mind that (just as long as he's being used as a backup option). The stick that Simpson does get on here is a bit OTT but I do understand some of the (sometimes justified) criticism that does come his way (backing off/unintelligent decisions). Ever since he "quit" Twitter, he has been alright really (admittedly, he did have a few bad performances prior to that) but now that we're near the end of the season, what I'll say about Danny Simpson is this: He is an unspectacular RB but he is actually quite decent defensively (would certainly have him over Raylor at RB). His attacking play though is very limited - whilst he does attempt some forward runs, his end product this season hasn't really been good enough (too many wayward/inaccurate crosses most of the time). So when we do have our strongest starting XI available, he is the weak link, it has to be said. I'm actually disappointed that he hasn't really shown any real signs of progression/improvement from last season. So, if we want to really progress in the future, Simpson should not be the first choice RB (I want to see Santon being given a runout there). But what I have seen this season are some solid/decent performances here and there and that has to count for something, yeah? So, I would keep him around because I can see him being decent backup (whether Simpson accepts this is another matter).
Tiresias
I think he gets a lot of unfair stick, including from me, he's hard working and often functional, but I desperately want a confident ball playing right back to link up with ben arfa, Simspon is never going to be that. Fair play to him he works hard etc, just not good enough ultimately. He obviously thinks way too much of himself but don't have much problem with his on pitch attitude, just wish he could pass the ball...
Weezertron
You all know he isn't going to be used as back up if he signs this deal.
Cajun
We gave Williamson a similar contract, offered Nolan/Barton long term deals etc.. Happy for him to stay as a squad player, at the very least it means we will get money for him when there is no longer room for him in the squad. A new contract means nothing in regards to his first team place.
