Was it purely on the back of that painting the fence to celebrate winning the title comment he made? Wouldn't surprise me if it was just sarcasm. Was too young at the time to know the context, though. I think it was more to do with, a no doubt coached, wooden and expressionless/emotionless interview style. Would say very little and in monotone. Lovely to see him relax into being his more humorous natural self (should stop saying 'I really do' to reinforce points though).
