JH
Making Europe will keep them in business IMO. If the FA really want them to stop going out of existence they should allow Pompey to have the Europa league place, or if it isn't their decision then do everything they can to make sure UEFA do. I have no particular affiliation to Pompey, but I'd rather they weren't crushed simply because their fanbase absolutely love that club and if it was us, it'd kill me to see us go out of business. It would be horrible if Portsmouth were denied a European place that they earned through merit. I still feel sorry for their fans (but not the bell ringing twat). They shouldn't be really because if it wasn't Portsmouth there, the place in the league wouldn't even be there. Give Portsmouth what they've earned. Guest gggg
Would be funny if this happens, Villa don't deserve to play in Europe.
Village Idiot
Pompey lawfully qualified for Europe under the rules everybody knew beforehand imho, this would not be Liverpool in 2005 if they got in. I personally think that sporting merit should trump paperwork.
Raconteur
Isn't the issue that to play in European competitions, a club must apply for a "European licence", which Pompey have not done. Therefore to suggest that they're not being allowed into the Europa League is incorrect - the club chose not to enter... EDIT: That said, the club are supposedly moving to apply retrospectively...
Ashley17
Yeah basically what Raconteur said, they couldn't apply for a European license because they weren't in a position to submit their accounts, which is a requirement of the entry process. Having said that, surely these accounts are submitted for a reason and by the sounds of it there is nothing right at all with them, so maybe they'll get their license rejected anyway. BlueStar
PORTSMOUTH'S miracle worker Avram Grant has been offered a new job in the Premier League. http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/2929610/Avrams-got-Prem-job-offer.html#ixzz0kynLFDQD Hammers? It's the Sun mind, so it's probably bobbins anyway.
GG
Give Portsmouth what they've earned. Earned with a squad they can't pay for or sustain? Unfair advantage, is it not?
JH
Give Portsmouth what they've earned. Earned with a squad they can't pay for or sustain? Unfair advantage, is it not? So what? It doesn't matter that they're in administration, it doesn't matter they've been relegated, it doesn't matter that they have a squad they can't pay or sustain. They won in the 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th and Semi Final of the FA Cup and like everyone else who has done that in the past with the other finalists already in Europe, they deserve the European place. If it had anything to do with paying squad troubles or administration, they might as well not give it to the cup winners. They should just give it to the most financially stable club in England every year.
Teasy
Really just comes down to what the rules say. If there's a rule that says a club can't get into Europe if they're in financial meltdown (administration) then they shouldn't get in. They deserve the chance to win the cup, but they don't deserve to be in Europe unless they meet the criteria for entry.

But then for next season, the rules needs to be looked at, a team who has earned a European place should get it.

Exiled in Texas
I think that Pompey should decline the offer of playing in Europe fpr the good of their own club. They even admitted that it caused them problems so they shoud decline it and pass the poisoned chalice to another club. Portsmouth goalkeeper David James says victory in the 2008 FA Cup final set the club on the road to financial ruin. "It has had a terrible effect on the club over arguably the last 18 months," said James, "Qualifying for Europe was financially and physically damaging for the club." "Had we not won the FA Cup, bizarrely it would probably have done us a lot better, because we would not have qualified for Europe and would have been able to build on two decent years of progression. :-)

Aye, we were punished by being relegated, as they are too. If we had got to the FA Cup and were being told that we were not going to be allowed to play in Europe because of the owner being a financial arse would you just sit there and say "aye, we don't deserve it!"? Would you shite, and don't for a moment say you would because you wouldn't!
Thespence
They needed a Uefa club licence they haven't so they should not be allowed to enter. Owners/Chairmen from the other PL clubs have already agreed to them getting parachute payment money early & now they are expecting to enter a competition they don't even have licence for above clubs who have spent time, effort & money getting there's in what a BUNCH OF CHEEKY TWATS. Pompey are playing a dangerous game here because they may/will get knocked out 1st round & then when they go begging to PL Owners/Chairmen again shit like this will be remembered. They need to do a tactical retreat on this issue, praise PL clubs for there help so far, try & win the cup & then next year when they have no players at least the can ask to borrow some from PL clubs. The fans must feel like it's one big kick in the balls after another tbh.
Thespence
It is not the fans, clubs & players fault of other clubs either. They are going to a Cup final it is not all bad. There team next year will be s*** & very likely to go out in round 1 in front of a less than full Fratton Park. Why risk pissing off clubs who have already bent rules to help Pompey out more than winning Europa Cup will ever do & no doubt Pompey will be seeking help from cash/player wise next year. It is not like we are talking group stages of the CL league here it is the Europa cup ffs.
