Beckham would be my first name on this list, if not one of the first in the squad. He has such quality with his crossing and passing that no-one else can match, and is deadly from set pieces.

Poor mans Wayne Routledge without the pace.

Lampard is better at both right now. Crossing and passing I mean. Beckham is absolutely finished.

That well known right midfielder Frank Lampard.

Yeah, we have plenty of quality set pieces and passers, but from the right side of the field there is no-one who can match Beckham's crossing or passing ability. The quality of our crossing has to be vitally important with the way that we play, i.e. full backs pushing up and lots of width. Add to the fact that Rooney gets in great positions, and even Crouch and Heskey score the occasional header for their size. Gerrard will probably play left side, giving us the need for more width and quality on the right.

Beckham is a must.

To start he is just a safe experienced option.  The likes of Lennon, SWP etc. are so unpredictable at international level.  One minute they are world beaters, the next they are tripe.  Beckham has the experience and quality to play a competitive part in any game.

On top of that he is a constant threat.  Whenever he plays he creates chances, be in from set pieces or crosses.  He has to go.

Beckham, Lennon, Milner, Cole.

I went for that too, Beckham scraped in as he still seems to offer something a bit different to everyone else when he comes on. Would never start him but an excellent impact sub if needed. I've only seen him for England in the last two years mind, no idea what he's been like at club level.

Could do with a bit more pace mind. Walcott and Young both tempted me but seem to not be the players they were 1-2 years ago at the moment.

You have a problem where some of your potentially good wingers (Walcott, Young, W-Phillips) seem to be in pretty shit form at the moment.

I rate Joe Cole greatly so him and Lennon should get you sorted as starters, Milner is very decent as another option since you know you'll get great workrate at the very least. But after these three is a bit meh. If Walcott ramps up some form I guess I would take him over the others, his pace can really be an asset against some continental and SA sides.

Beckham has no legs but I still have him as one of the top deadball specialists in the world. If that deserves a WC spot I don't know. I'd take him as a fifth if you get 2 players that can play in each wing.

Walcott, Beckham, Lennon and Joe Cole for me. Milner could still go in place of an extra striker, as well.

I reckon Milner could be one of those players who misses the final cut for tournament squads for the whole of his career.

I didn't think he would have a sniff if you'd asked me at the start of the season, but Capello seems to rate him very highly. If his form in this second half of the season is anywhere near how he played in the first then I think he'll go. A lot depends on fitness of other as well, as is always the case of course.

Milner will go, no doubt in my mind.

I think based on form he has to.

Long way to go until the end of the season though. While some will go on name value ahead of form, he's one of the few players on the margin who need to keep performing at an eye-catching level to be certain of his place.

If he does that, not only will he get on the plane he'll probably get some minutes on the pitch as well.

Gone for Beckham, Young, Walcott and Lennon.

Soften them up by having Lennon run at them for 60 minutes and bring Beckham on to provide the clinical pass for the remainder of the game.  If he can get fit then Walcott can provide a bit of unpredicability and cover a few positions as well.  Young is the only option we have that could provide left-sided cover with the pace and stamina that is required over the competition - Cole hasn't played regularly for a couple of seasons, Milner runs like hes on a velcro pitch wearing velcro boots carrying two bags of cement and Downing is just, well, shit.

However, if Walcott can't get fit beforehand then I'd go for Milner to cover the utility role as Cole is liable to breakdown and Downing is shit - I'd rather have someone running in a river of treacle with ankle irons on that you can rely on being there and not being shit.
